what causes a genesis tank to stop working or make battery overheat and how do i fix it?

ive got 2 mini cobra clones which i use on a sigelei mech mod.
I have 2 different pairs of batteries, 2 trustfires brc 18650s protected circuit as well as 2 no brand ones that are unprotected.

the unprotected batteries let the cobra fire with no probs but the whole mod starts to heat up, everything from the switch to the battery.

the protected batteries even fully charged wont fire the cobra.

mesh wicks have been switched along with the coils with similar results, so those arent the problem. the mod itself fires everything else from my drip tanks and vivi novas and mini novas as well as other genny style atty but not this one particular cobra.

I have taken the problematic cobra apart and it seems that one of its rubber rings have melted. i removed the rest of the melted bits, but that didnt affect the result either.

consistently my protected 18650s wont work and my unprotected batts heat up....what is the problem here?

Blix is right, this sounds pretty unsafe. I'm guessing your chobra is shorting out and pulling too much amps from your batteries. The protected batteries are meant to stop working like that, but it's not good. The unprotected aren't and will vent if you draw too much from them, or they could explode.

You really need a multimeter too and some basic knowledge on battery limits and ohms, voltage and amperage.

The reason why your protected batteries dont work is because they are doing their job protecting you and themselves. You are probably firing a super low ohm coil, pumpin WAY to many amps thru your batts.

Your unprotected batteries MUST be disposed of right now. DO NOT keep using them they could explode in the charger. You MUST use safe chemistry IMR high drain batteries.

yeah i figured, i have already trashed the no protection batteries but if im using the same gauge kanthal for coiling and using the same amount of turns (4 turns @ 24AWG) it doesnt seem logical for one to be insanely higher ohm-age than the other right? or are there factors im not aware of here

The problematic clone has a short circuit somewhere. That's why the protected batteries won't fire and the unprotected ones do.

Like Steam said, the unprotected batteries are now time bombs. Try to charge or use them again and you are likely to see a very unpleasant fireworks display. They are unstable and unsafe. Get rid of them. Don't even try them in the unproblematic cobra.

These batteries seems fine. I heard they are not the best for mech. But I don't know why.

They use a safe chemistry and have a 10A limit.

However, you must have a multimeter and know how to use it. Keep your coils above 1 ohm until you know what you are doing.

You must understand how to use ohms law or an ohm law calculator in order to be sure not to bust that 10 amp limit.

The "standard" battery that every body uses is the AW IMR 18650.

Just out of curiosity who sold you these garbage batteries?

a local seller....I live in south east asia, so original parts are hard to come by, and ordering costs a lot of money so we sort of have to make due with ppl here.

3k-4k mah fake batteries that just dont work or arent safe litter the streets here xD
