Am currently using the Subox Mini and my single 18650 can be charged through the mod itself simply with an Android cable.

Do other mods not have this same capability? Is this exclusive to the Subox mini?

You may do so but provided the cable is the slow charging kind and best to charge using the computer usb port since it's the slowest. Nevertheless, it's still recommended to charge your batt using external charger.

I'm currently using some cheap brandless made from China single batt charger. It's too damn slow. Getting the xtar soon

You can use your micro USB to charge but I do not and will not recommend it. Sure technologies are getting better and chip set are getting more durable. But there's only so much a small chip can take.

Beside if anything happens when charging with micro USB, do remember that the battery is in your mod.. In minor cases it will just vent. Or it can make your mod become a pipe bomb. If you are too stubborn and still want to charge on micro USB, do make sure to supervise your charging. Never let it charge overnight.

Another point to take note of is that charger is well... Dedicated to charging. The chip in the charger regulate your charging of your batteries. Beside not turning into a pipe bomb, let's look at it this way...

A nitecore d2 cost around 30 local dollar. A d2 can cost around 150. Which one will be cheaper to replace if blown?

I use a nitecore d2 at home and I also have an xstar mc2 for my outdoor use. I can plug my portable charger into my mc2 for charging on the go. But usually I will bring spare batteries.

Edit: accidentally type i2 instead of d2

Yes the keyword here is SUPERVISION. I forgot to bring my toy back and almost left it charging overnight at work. Had to drive back near midnight and collect it. Can't imagine what would happen to me if it explodes..

Never leave batteries charging unsupervised for long periods.

Charging externally will always be the preferred and safer option.

However that being said, it all depends on technology in your mod as well. For example the DNA200 series has a balanced charging module for the 3 cell lipos on board.

I usually have spare batteries so they are charged externally but when I travel, I make do with the USB port over a 1-2amp powerbank.

Please correct me if I'm wrong... Most dna200 mod can't be easily charged externally (lipo proprietary charger or can't take out lipo) as most of them use lipo.

But then again like you have said, dna200 have very good regulation with their charging. Even then, charging unsupervised is not a very sound idea.

I just gotten my baby, but it comes with only cable. I wonder what plug you guys use to charge? previously heard of some explosion case with this toy. Any tips to avoid such accident ?
Before you start buying god knows which charger that others have recommended, it would be a good idea to know what mod you have - does it have a built in battery or a removable one, that way people can then give correct information instead of assumptions, saying it comes with only a cable leads me to believe it has a built in battery which can only be charged using the said cable (USB lead ??) in which case you would only need a wall wart as you call them in the US.

Well Lipo batteries can be externally charged by a balanced Lipo charger ( any RC shop should sell this) . Its also quite troublesome to pull out the batteries as it involves cables. DNA200s also charge at 1A ( and i think only vaporshark and another brand does 2A)

That's why i mentioned most DNA200s have a balanced charger board on board which will balance the 3 cells in the lipo which is pretty safe.

BUT one thing i stress if you do have a DNA200, please set up the battery properly in E-scribe. I know most manufacturers do not set this up by default and you risk damaging your battry if it goes too low. you can also set the charging screen correctly to show the charge percentage and amps being fed to the lipo. for the last few %, it will usually go down to 0.1-0.5 to balance the cells.
