I've read on this forum about Lorann.

I've read about Capella.

I haven't found what contstitutes a good flavor concentrate for use in e-juice flavoring. I have a nice stash of RIO concentrates and was wondering if those are suitable? They are intended to mix with sugar and water to make a syrup and then add to seltzer for flavored carbonated drinks.

Opinions welcome.

The RIO concentrates should work. They would be water soluble, which indicates a water, alcohol, propylene glycol or glycerine base. They don't appear to have any sugar.

As far as strength, the mixing instructions for syrup specify 4oz per gallon of water, so that's about 4% concentration for shaved ice syrup (my recollection of snowcone syrup is that it has a strong flavor). The flavor should be strong.

And the price is only $0.88 per oz for the smallest size. That's cheap!

One possible problem: some of these might have an excessive amount of artificial coloring. Are they very dark?

No sugar in the concentrate.

Yes. All dark.

It's less then a gallon of water to use. The end volume is one gallon of syrup. There is a helluva lot of sugar in it. 4 oz concentrate plus 5 POUNDS sugar plus enough water to make a gallon, is the recipe.

Thank you for your reply!

Still worth a try. You might mix some test liquid using 90% vegetable glycerin/water base and 10% concentrate to see how much flavor is delivered.

I read the two lists of concentrates and thought that some of the flavors should have lower amounts of coloring. Here are some of my guesses:

Original Shaved Ice Concentrates
Almond
Coconut
Honey
Mai Tai (White)
Vanilla

Specialty Shaved Ice Concentrates
Cheesecake
Coconut Cream
Eggnog
Ginger Ale
Horchata
Maple
Marshmallow
Vanilla Clear
White Grape
