Hello my fellow vapers,

so yesterday i built one of my first quad coils! and im lovin it. one of the things i wanted to do was make each wrap in a "micro coil" type of fashion, with a 5/6 wrap, while making sure each wrap is closely touching like a compressed spring. I have recently seen a lot of people calling their setups "micro coils" when they only have as little as even a 3/4 wrap. i was initially acustomed to "micro coils" being about at least 7/8 wraps and up. but is this true? im not too sure and i think (although i might be mistaken) that others new to rebuilding like me may have similar questions.

my question to the people who know a bit more about it than i or others do, is: what exactly constitutes as a micro coil setup?

-what are the minimum amount of wraps? where do we draw the line? (must it be a 7/8? 5/6? or just anything?)
-is a micro coil anything where the coils are closely touching? or is there a wrap limit?
-must a micro coil have a certain diameter?
-is there supposed to be a certain resistance?

also, are there any benefits of having a micro coil setup? (whatever that may be haha). :)

when they first started to appear I was always under the impression it was the size of the wrappings height (as in 2 or 3 mm) not the side to side length of the coil that denoted the "micro" label

also, are there any benefits of having a micro coil setup? (whatever that may be haha).
the original impression is that something like a 8 wrap micro is ohms for ohm there is more wire touching the wick make an 8 wrap micro at 1.5 ohm or a 4 wrap normal for 1.5 ohm . the more surface touching = more vapor production

this is also why ribbon works so well, on average 3X the wire touching the wick wrap for wrap.

I would say any coil 3mm or less in wrap diameter that touches the coils all the way through. I think of it as 10 or less generally, but I don't know why a 12 wrap coil of 2mm diameter would no longer be a micro coil. My understanding has always been:

1) coils are packed tightly.
2) small diameter of drill bit or whatever they are wrapped around.

I happen to like 3/32 in (2.3 mm for the rest of the world) for my micro coils.

Number of wraps doesn't matter for a micro coil. I wrap a 4 wrap 30 gauge kanthal on a 1/16 drill bit and it meters out at 1.02 ohms. I wrap a 7 wrap 28 gauge kanthal on a 1/16 drill bit and it comes to 1.04 ohms. The flavor, vapor and TH are the same to me on both coils regardless of how many wraps it takes to get to 1 ohm. I prefer the 28 gauge because it is thicker and lasts longer before replacing.
