Well I started out with the latest & greatest of course  It was called an eGo-T. Didn't take all that long to figure out that it might have been the latest, but it wasn't the greatest. I think I spent as much time washing those old "T" atomizers as I did vaping them.
Then someone said "you know you can just drip on a normal atomizer with those batteries", and my WOW moment happened.

Then someone on here said "ya know those eGo batteries will wear out some day, so you should think about getting a backup", and the search was on. My first "backup" was a 510-N. What a mistake that turned out to be, the eGo batteries out lasted it. So I decided I wanted something that would still work even if hell froze over, and got a Silver Bullet. Still have that SB, and it still looks & works great.

Since then I've moved on to fancier mods, RDA's, and what not, but I'm still enjoying basically the same vape that I found with that old eGo-T battery and a LR 510 atomizer.

What a coincidence. At the same time you were writing this I was also writing about having TWO SVDs fail because of the firing button. After mine broke I checked online for complaints. You wouldn't believe how many people have failures of the fire button in the SVD.

I've been considering replacing it with a Vamo V5. It takes the same tanks and batteries as my SVD so I've already got everything I need. Just need to convince the wife that we need more than the Tritons we both have now.

I was really apprehensive about getting another Innokin product, but I really like the look of the VTR, I can save my Zmax for dripping. I will let you know how the VTR holds up. I may decide to take the SVDs apart and see if the buttons can be fixed. I saw a video link in another forum. Can't hurt since they aren't working now anyway.:(

Started with the Blu's, then an Innokin iTaste VV 3.0 with stock cartos, but everything changed when I bought a ProTank 1 clone. The flavor & hit was so much better. Now I still have the iTaste VV, in addition to a Vamo v5 & a cheap eGo style battery. In terms of attys I now have the PT 2, PT 3, & a Davide AnyVape Glassomizer BDC Aspire version. Just started day 5 with NO ANALOGS :vapor:

I can already tell you what you'll find.

As near as I can tell the top is not removable. I've chewed one up pretty good with a pair of vice grips but never could get the top to loosen up. I suspect they put an adhesive in the threads to seal it. The only thing you can remove is the battery terminal to replace the rubber O-ring which is also a common failure with the SVD.

On the bottom you can pull the black plastic ring that holds the battery connection in place. As you pull that out you'll find that the wire is not a single piece but is actually two pieces that have been twisted together and held with a small piece of tape. It's really easy to pull them apart and remove the plastic piece so you can get to the inside.

Now comes the difficult part. Inside the red wire is run through another plastic ring with a little crescent shaped hole. As far as I can tell that plastic ring is also held in place with adhesive. Using a pair of needle nose pliers I ended up breaking part of the plastic without being able to move the ring at all. All of the buttons are behind that ring.

If you try removing the cover to the LCD screen you'll find that the display itself is also mounted from the inside of the tube, so you cannot get inside that way.

I may take it apart as far as possible this weekend and take some pics. Perhaps someone else knows how to get these rings out without damaging anything, but so far I've been unable to do it. And it's not like I'm incompetent with these sort of things, I'm a network admin for a living and build race cars for a hobby. I'm pretty good with mechanical and electrical devices.

Got a 21st Century brand disposable about a year ago, went to the truck opened it, took a few draws and then went and got a pack of cigs. Heard an ad on the radio in Dec., went to the store and found a whole new world of electronic cigs. I got an ego starter kit, ego battery and Ce4. Stopped analogs completely the next day. Ordered my MVP 2.0 a couple of weeks later. Mvp with an evod, protank II, and the Iclear 30 that came with it all work great for me. I may get a couple of 510 attys to drip and see where it goes from there.

1st post! :) - sorry for the length...
6/2011 Blu Starter gen 1(? no 'share' functionality - whatever that was) -quit analog
8/2011 Quit ecig (mostly - occasional puffs at "I NEED a cigarette!" moments) (to much hassle swapping batteries, and 'smoke' experience sucked)
8/2013 Cross country move - moved in with relatives who smoked. cravings kicked up. Researched for better than blu... found pbusardo's videos.. read tons of reviews on retailers websites - on a budget, didn't want to break the bank - got Ego-T upgrade 1300mAh with pass through, 2 evod tanks, 1 vivi nova tank, replacement heads for both.
10/2013 replaced broken evod tank, got a Vision Spinner 900mAh (higher mAh was out of stock from the vendor I used). Wanted to try different resistance heads other than what ego T regulated/unregulated allowed.
12/2013 replaced 2 leaky Evod tanks (washed regularly with scorching hot water - melted the glue i think) with 2 Mini PT2's. Liked evods better because of plastic mouth piece and tighter draw, but been using protanks for a while and like em well enough. Still use original vivi, though i had to replace the tank because i broke it (i think i screwed the caps on too tight while it was still hot from a bath).
YESTERDAY - finally broke down and bought an APV (SmokTech SiD - $45! I'm on a budget so proveri is kinda out of the question), x2 IMR 18650 2000mAh 3.7v HighDrain Li-mn Flat Top Batteries, and Nitecore i4 2nd gen charger. I'll hang onto my Egos for going out and about, I dont think the SiD will make a good travel companion...
This is a bit off topic (what did you start with) but..... Later this year I hope to get into rebuildables (thinking Fogger v3). I've done some micro coil rebuilds on my Kanger heads that seemed to turn out ok (I have a multi-meter tool that tests ohms and such). That was fun, but there isn't a ton of room in those heads to do many rebuildables with my big fat hands.
Maybe next year I'll get a Mech... I want an APV that has a smaller formfactor.. it would me nice if they had a 'control head' that was just a spinning ring for changing your VW setting. I've seen the kick and crown, but i still think a dial on (not in) the device would be a good feature. I know, Mech means no electronics, but VW seems to be nice to have... a little more room to try out different resistances. I know they have tubes for the 18350's for the SiD, but I'd rather not sacrifice battery power for the control head.

All that said. I dont think I have a problem (ATCS - add to cart syndrome), but i could just be in denial. The only person I'm trying to impress is myself (better vapor, better flavor, cheap and easy maintenance). I dont need all the latest and greatest tech (should be evident from above), but I want stuff that works reliably. I HATE buying knockoffs (original designer should get the credit AND the money) but I cant afford the real thing for the more advanced stuff.

    JUICE:
Started with some no name juice from the vendor I bought my hardware from... Ick! I ran as fast as my fingers would carry me to AVEJuice. Have since tried TexasSelectVapor - there are a few things I go back there for, but their flavor base seems to be a lot sweeter than I care for - haven't tried steeping though. I usually vape tobacco flavors, mint, and coffee.. Putting an order into MBV today (from all the good stuff I hear here - AND great prices!). Not looking forward to waiting for the steeping process - but hopefully it pays off!

Thanks for all the ECF contributions. Its really helped with my vape journey lately.

Nameless ego 650 with ce4 style clearo, a week later a protank 2, then a smoktech SiD, the the igo-w, then a Magneto and that's where I stand now. Also have about 200 mls of random liquids. I need to calm down with the "oh I must buy the shiny" mindset. But I still want a Kraken clone, Russian 91%, and a Maraxus clone (can't afford the real deals yet).

Wow!!! you sound exactly like me.... I've been vaping all of possibly 3 weeks since my 4th Son was born.. Started w/ a Smok Mini Ego Express kit, Waiting on the Arrival of my MVP 2.0 Energy Edition... And the First Actual "Mod" that I'm looking @ are between the Joyetech Evic & The Smok SiD... Possibly gonna pull the trigger on one of those in the next couple of days...

I started with the eGo-T tank system back when it was new and all the rage. It had good flavor, but was a little light on TH. So, I got a 510 kit, which had better TH. But, the constant refilling was maddening. Tried 510 SR cartos, not enough TH. Tried 510 LR cartos, much better. Then, about a month in, I stumbled upon the 306 and dripping. That was it!

In the meantime, I had bought a little 3.7 V box mod and a RoughStack from Madvapes.

I eventually tried lots of other stuff. But, that's where I started back in early 2011. And, I still drip on a 306 sometimes and even still use my RoughStack and little boxmod sometimes. Along with my SID, MVP, carto-tanks, . . . . .

I started vaping with standard Joye 510 batteries and 510 atties. This was before the ego existed. We used to use foam and teabags in our cartridges back then. I found it was easier to just drip juice into my atty every few pulls, so that is when I started dripping. My first mod was the BB from altsmoke.com.

I started with the old Joye 510 cigalike, moved up to refilling the cartridges with teabags and blue foam (lol), moved to blu cigs and volcano cigalikes because I liked the charging packs...quit for a while and went back to dipping...then got my ego setups with Boge 510's. Jumped right up to the Provari from there and went through many atomizer platforms. Currently on the Provari with a Russian 91%, and waiting on the Protovapor xpv...
