@Oberon75 If you are only comfortable recommending high end mods, that is fine.

I am simply saying not everyone wants, needs, or can afford them. Having said that there is the flip side, person buys cheap item, not good, buys a step up, little better and still not good, x number of upgrades later they are @Oberon75 level of gear.

I quit smoking in 2009 with a 510 analog style, as did my wife. After quitting we upgraded to a Puresmoker Prestige, then went to Ego's after that. The upgrades were not required simply desired. After the first year or so I quit vaping, and recently picked it back up. My wife has been a continuous vaper on the Ego.

I am feeling our discussion has gone down this road however:

@Oberon75 Do you smoke ?

Newbie : Yes

@Oberon75 How many packs a day ?

Newbie 3 packs

@Oberon75 How much per pack

Newbie $10.00

@Oberon75 And how long have you been smoking ?

Newbie 15 years

@Oberon75 So 1 pack cost $10.00 and you have 3 packs a day which puts your spending each month at $900. In one year, it would be$10,800 correct ?

Newbie Correct

@Oberon75 If in 1 year you spend $10,800 not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending at $162,000 correct ?

Newbie Correct

@Oberon75 Do you know that if you hadn't smoked, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari ?

Newbie Do you smoke ?

@Oberon75 No

Newbie: Where's your Ferrari then ?

Not trying to offend, just using humor to make a point :)

My point being that just because they save in the smoking department, one should not simply expect them to then invest 100% of it back into vaping.

I am glad you have gear that you like that works for you, no matter if its cheap or expensive.

Happy Vaping!
I just try and recommend quality so they don't end up wasting too much money in the long run like I did between poor performing mods and mods that crap out in a month only to find out the warranty is no longer good.

For a newbie, I advise them to seek out the trade groups. You can get a DNA 40 for cheaper than a current IPV. I would even let my old Vapor Shark rDNA 40 go for $50 with two shark skins, wireless charger and the battery.

And i belong to a lot of vaping communities and see a lot of mod addictions. Thats why P4Y and Sigelei releases mods faster than issues in a magazine subscription. People gotta catch them all. When the next mod releases, I really don't pay any attention. But I know a lot of people who spend a whole lot more money than me on a mod collection with their best piece being an Xcube or IP3 LI. Meanwhile I have two mods in rotation which are my DNA 200 and Hex Ohm v2.1. And i probably wont be concerned with anything else until next summer.

Good and valid points all.
I try to get a sense of what a persons needs/wants/budgets are like and tailor accordingly. No need to oversell when I am not making a commission (not that I would even were that the case). I also feel it is a hard sell going from analogs to a 200w mod in one fell swoop. Doing it near there for $50 though is a great idea providing they are willing to try that road. If they are not comfortable trying something due to price/size they may keep smoking. I also respect quality, but we should not need to break the bank to get a decent product.

That Wismec Reuleaux RX200 is intriguing. Much lower price point than the DNA200 board, potentially less "fiddly" for some users. Will have to wait on a final verdict for a bit imho to see how each hold up/compare. If nothing else it packs a lot of power for heavy vapers.

Unless my Wismec Presa TC 75w explodes or just dies I have to say I am very impressed thus far with Wismec, so comfortable and easy to use, yet has a lot of options at a good price.

Who isn't Cloumaker for steadily lying about their shipping date?

I don't know anything about that, but I don't follow all these companies all the time. I know about the cloudmaker project though and if they have slipped up, you need to decide for yourself how bad.

I have followed the likes of Volcano (and V2, Apollo and Vaporfi) since the Autumn of 2013, and they wouldn't be getting 1c of my money.

That doesn't mean I don't think it's a great mod, by the way. What's the warranty?

Go with your instinct. :)

Ha! I was about to post a similar thread! Glad I found this one, first...

I own two DNA200s, I really wouldn't recommend them to any new vaper. Not until they had done all the homework to really understand what they are using. If they have done this they wouldn't be on here asking what device to get. I just think it's over kill for a newbie.

Sorry. I have to disagree. I've been vaping for a couple years, now. I actually started on one of the original Vaporshark DNAs, but I've been using mechanical mods for almost a year (a Nemesis clone, a Maraxus clone, and an authentic Raijin). However, I've been keeping tabs on regulated mods because I've been wanting to go back, but I wasn't sure with what. I know all about variable voltage, wattage, and temperature, coils, and all of that.

Then I read about the DNA200 (when it was being announced). I got very excited, and started following it very closely. I very much know what I'm getting in to by looking for a DNA200 device, and I'm extremely excited for it. The only thing that would make it better is an app for the phone (that works on all devices, not just Apple).

I'm just having a little trouble pinning down which DNA200 device I should go for because I'm horribly indecisive, and there's some factors I'm not even sure of, yet (like, for example, if I should stick to my 18650s or go ahead and try the LiPOs). So a thread like this is pretty wonderful for someone like me. Just because I'm indecisive doesn't mean I don't know what I'm getting in to, and it especially doesn't mean I'm a beginner. On top of that, I am on a tight budget, but I'd like to actually choose my device without worrying too much about cost and then save up for whichever device I ultimately choose (though I think I'll limit myself to $250, which still gives me a buffer, and if I can get below that, then I can also afford a new tank for it).

I don't know anything about that, but I don't follow all these companies all the time. I know about the cloudmaker project though and if they have slipped up, you need to decide for yourself how bad.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I was actually looking at the Cloudmaker Whiteout today because I was thinking it'd be the DNA200 device for me (based on what Vaping360 had to say). I love the fact that it's intended to be modular, and thus upgradeable/"future-proof". That is an amazing feature. Even moreso because it means that if I do settle on it and better devices, or even a new DNA, come out before I've saved up enough, then that's okay because I can easily upgrade the Whiteout.

So I made my way over to the Reddits earlier today and... well... I know what happened with Cloudmaker (and Smog Distribution), and it was ugly enough to make me second-guess my interest in the device. I'd say more, but I'm not sure this is the thread to drag that debacle into. Plus, since I only just read about it today and am decidedly not one of the people affected, I'm absolutely positive that I'm not the person to really bring it up. If you really want to know, just head over to the Cloudmaker subreddit, and also check out the Smog Distribution subreddit. It's all there.

And who knows? Once the devices actually ship out and I start seeing the reviews, I may go for it regardless if it indeed works as advertised. The advertised device still sounds pretty darn amazing on its own.

ETA: And to be completely fair, from everything I've read, what happened wasn't entirely CMT's fault. There's a lot of blame to go around...

Yes, and yes. Exactly what I was thinking.

(The next comment is not directed at you)

Vaping360 is a sham site run by businessmen.
Previously known as TBEC Review what they say shouldn't count. They would sell their grandmothers for commission.
One day they will need to get a job, a proper one. ;)

I was not aware of that. Sucks because the idea/concept behind the site is awesome.

All well...

Yes. The concept of the site has improved. They (the two men that run it) changed the name, and I suspect this is because of the heat they were attracting. These days, they have lowered their commitment to rip-off brands too. It's worth reading if you know why it exists.
They are moving in the right direction, Yes.

Interesting, these 'affiliate marketeers' never turn up to vape meets.
They also stand by their 4.5 star reviews for hardware which costs $60 from a brand store and $20 from a vape shop.

Interesting stuff. (to me, anyway.. :) )

Na I'm not a newbie I just wanted different people's opinions on what DNA 200 mod they liked best.
