besides pg/vg and nicotine what else do i need to diy? i will just be making unflavored at first and i am ordering from wizard labs.

Get the things they recommended above. Upgrades that help with mixing would be a digital scale, building or buying a table mixer which also helps with steeping times, and a size appropriate glass bottle to store your unused nic. Good luck on the DIY path. It's been great for me.
Thanks that helped out a lot. For now I only purchased some vg/pg, nic, and some pipettes. I still have some glass bottles from past juice purchases I'll be washing out and reusing to save some money.

If you're not mixing by weight, syringes are great, almost mandatory, for PG and VG. keep in mind you'll need about a 14ga needle for the VG, else it'll take a half hour just to suck it into the syringe.
Alright I made my first batch Saturday. I thought I mixed it well but the throat hit was just too much! I checked to make sure my wick was not burning but it was fully soaked. I assume a wet wick can't burn right? Haha
So then I decided the most likely cause was a bad mixing and I was getting a ton of nic. But I wasn't feeling a nic rush or sick like I do with higher nic level juices.
Probably should have mentioned made a 70/30 vg/pg blend with 3% nic in a 15ml bottle. Well at least that is what I was going for. I followed the recipe off the steam calculator. Was that a good move or should I have gone with a different calculator.
The pippetes worked well but I miss flavor haha. So I'll probably be picking up some syringes and flavorings once I decide what flavor juice I want to make. First I need to troubleshoot want went off with my first attempt. Otherwise I don't think I'll be buying premade ejuice all that often anymore.

You have to be careful with brand new mixes. Sometimes you might run into a "hot spot" where the nicotine hasn't settled into the rest of the mix. I usually run the bottle under hot water for a few minutes and give it a good shake for a few minutes before I taste it.

I did shake it on and off for a good three hours before I vaped it. I thought that would be sufficient but I guess next time a more thorough approach would be better.
I would say the other thing I'm learning is some flavors made with ethyl alcohol can be harsh when they're fresh as well. I'm still learning this DIY thing but I have learned that some mixes that I wasn't crazy about when I mixed them fresh, were awesome when I tried them a couple weeks later after the alcohol/chemical smell was gone. Hope this helps.
It definitely helps. I'm extremely new to this which is why I am only making unflavored for now. I used to vape unflavored when I had flavored juices on hand but vaping nothing but unflavored is kinda weird to me. I didn't realize how accustomed to flavors I have become. So when I start flavoring my juices this will definitely come in handy.
You should also do this with the bottle of nic base while it is at room temperature to insure that you aren't getting a pocket of higher nic strength.
I did that on my first DIY attempt...forgot to shake the nic up....I learned fast not to forget again lol! That was horrid...thought I was going to fall over!

LOL...I had to do the same thing...then handed the bottle to my 17 year old and told her to shake it too!
I just found a new use for my 9 yo with ADHD.
It works...put a bottle in each hand and tell em to shake! My 17 year old has mild ADHD and I've found that if I have her do that while she's reading that she can keep her concentration a little better. I see a lot of DIY during school to help her out lol!
3%? You know that is 30mg/ml, right? I see many people mix up % and mg/ml numbers easily, so I try to point out the difference when I when I see something that might be confusing.

Being new to DIY the only thing I check two or three times every batch is that my nic level is correct.

If there is a difference I choose to take the lesser number, of course it is probably a difference in drop calculation (since I am one of those strange beings that mixes in drops currently).
Honestly if I am sitting at 2.75mg/ml of nic instead of 3mg/ml I can call that a day and vape away.
