Battery numbers work that way, e.g., the 18650 is 18 mm in diameter, and 65 mm in length (I'm not sure what the trailing 0 stands for).
A
few e-cig model numbers do as well, e.g., the DSE084, DSE103, and DSE108 are, respectively: 84, 103, and 108 mm long. But I don't think most e-cig models work like that. For example, the DSE901 is not 901 mm (or even 90.1 mm) and in fact is shorter than the DSE
801. And the DSE
601 e-pipe is a heck of a lot larger than the DSE701 e-cigar and any other DSE model.
And there certainly is no universal standard numeric classification coding. Each manufacturer (and supplier in some cases) has its own unique way of naming their products.
The M
201 (penstyle) is longer than the M
401 (mini), although there is a pattern within the M4XX series: M401 is the longest and M403 the shortest and the M402 falls in between.
In the Joye family, the Joye 30
2 (penstyle) is considerably longer than the Joye 30
6 (super-mini), which is shorter than the Joye 510. The Joye 306a is somewhat smaller than the Joye 306 and leads me to believe that it was an afterthought: "Hey, the 306 is
almost as small as a king size cigarette. Let's make one which
is that size."
Kanger's model numbers are simply confusing, using "KR808" as a portion of almost a dozen different model numbers (different not only in coding, but in
device).
The
alpha portion of the the alphanumeric model number
is meaningful, e.g., DSE = SLB (Sailebao), KR = Kanger, BE = Best Ecig, M = Smoore, and, of course, Joye =
joyetech.
The 510 in your example was dreamed up by Joye. [Maybe they wanted something 10 times better than the Smoke51.

] Since it has been so successful, other companies have come out with their own "510" models
similar to Joye's.
With the advent of mods (primarily American and European), most newer models (mod or otherwise) have non-numeric names: Joye Stick, eGO, Tornado, Indulgence, Prodigy, Screwdriver, GG, etc., etc. Sailebao does seem set in its ways with the DSE905.
And, even before that, many suppliers substituted nifty-sounding names (e.g., Titan, Mini Fogger, or Vapor King) for those Chinese model numbers (Joye510, Joye306, and KR808D-1, respectively).
So ... clear as mud, right?
