When I get spare batts, should they be charged right away, or is it okay just to let them sit uncharged until I need them? How long is it okay to leave a batt uncharged before it becomes unchargeable?
LiOn batteries don't really have a memory effect. They last about 2 years max, no matter how you use them really.
You may be able to *slightly* increase their longevity by charging them before they totally die, and using them occasionally. But the difference is slight.
Also, if you were, for example, just using the same one or two batteries constantly, this may slightly reduce their longevity.
For storage over a longer term its best not to fully charge them. Also the cooler the temperature the better. Link here shows how storing at full charge and elevated temps lowers battery capacity - Storing and priming of batteries
They do come with a partial charge, so you can store them safely right out of the package. They shouldn't be stored with either a full charge or with no charge, and when in use, you should charge them well before they go dead.....
Earth Ending Ray is an FDA approved use for these types of batteries
MistressNomad,if the batteries can last 2 years, they why do most people only get a few months out of them? I'm all about preserving my batteries as long as possible
