in the market for a dna tube mod. looking at the futura anybody have an experience with it or know of any problems anyone is having with it? everything else ive seen (wizard evolved is way expensive, and im not a fan of box mods) dont strike my fancy, are terribly overpriced, or impossible to get ahold of. also looking at the zna but im sure those were sold out a couple mins after they went up hahaha

Pburdo also did a review on them as well.

but yea do a search for nexgen and check out the futura thread, more drama then a lifetime original movie... lol

I do not own a Futura, but I'll say this:

I'm perfectly willing to spend $200 on a regulated device, but it won't be a Futura unless they get some of the holes in their QC plugged up. I almost bought one until I read through the bulk of that thread, and now I'm glad I didn't take the risk.

Much the same story with me as K_Tech indicated above. I was following the thread for all told a couple months with an itchy trigger finger to order one, but the problems with order and assembly timing gave me cause for concern.

Then when orders started arriving with wonky 510 threading, unreliable rocker switch assemblies, some various issues with top caps, etc, it seemed as though they were running into some new company startup pains, and the rep basically confirmed that. They are standing behind their product and are fixing the problematic ones, but unlike some of the really forgiving folks who've laid out the coin for the device, I couldn't justify the purchase where I couldn't be completely confident that I'd get a device with perfect 510 threading, or a 510 only top cap that did not allow air/juice into the device.

Basically, when all is said and done this is a $300 purchase after tax, add-ons, and shipping... And that's too much of a financial gamble with the list of problems multiple people have been dealing with IMHO.

When the futura is bang-on, then all indications are that it is a stellar device, but the uncertainty in what you will get at this moment with the qa issues is something any new purchaser will have to consider.

Not really. The closest would be the cyborg from FluidVaper but last I checked they were out of stock and I haven't received a reply on when they're coming back in.

For what it's worth, Jon, the NexGen rep put up a reply addressing a lot of the issues and questions earlier today. He's adamant they have corrected the leaking issue in the top cap, and it sounds lime they may be getting a better handle on everything.

My suggestion would be to keep your eyes on the thread for a little bit longer and you may find the startup issues they were having are no longer the case.

I've been following the thread pretty closely for several months. What I've seen is a lot of typical startup issues compounded by an inexperienced front man who really doesn't have a good handle on working with the public. They've been fixing issues as they were reported.

I also think a number of the backouts in the thread were people with buyers remorse. You'll see a number of people flame out and cancel their order a week or two before they would have gotten it after waiting for months, badmouthing NexGen up and down. It just doesn't make sense to me that they waited that long and then canceled, what does make sense to me is that they realized it was time for commitment and ran away. No inside info on that, just my gut read of the situation.

While agree to some extent about the posts and people backing away.

Whats really at issue is not if they stand behind the product but the overall way they handled all of this.. It would be perfectly acceptable to hear, were on it im just not sure about ......

instead we got snarky responses and cutesy replies, and sarcasm laced with plain rudeness bordering on contempt for the customers who dare question where the heck is their 260 dollar mod.

growing pains are acceptable, but to tell me "Oh sorry we didnt even test the threads on a newly milled topcapcuase I dont own a better atty" is unacceptable.

too many other companies come out with new products all the time, many on preorder, and they make sure the customer knows where they stand at all times, not run away every time people start asking for more information.

you canclearly see this pattern in the threads, he is there almost every day until posters get antsy and start asking for information, then he vanishes for days if not weeks, when he comes back it's some generic response.

they have a lot to learn and need much growth both as a company and as responsible adults. If your going to ask this kind of money without fully testing the product you sell first. then you should at least do it while showing the customers a bit of respect as they are the ones (like this thread) who will gladly kill off your reputation.

Agree completely, I certainly think they've done an incredible amount of damage to themselves with the behavior you describe. The behavior you describe has certainly hurt their word of mouth and sales. It really is a niche device, the market for more than 15 Watts is tiny compared with more mainstream devices and the people hang together. Word of mouth is VERY important.

ive decided that im gonna try a box mod simply because they are available and even though i dont care for them ive never actually owned one so im gonna try one out debating on the new vapor shark, or the dz d30s based on overall size, the closest to a tube mods form factor besides the zna but those are a mystical unicorn only seen for about 9 seconds on electronicstix.com hahahah and the hana mod v3 is just as bad an expensive

yeah the whole futura thing has really sketched me out i was pretty much sold on it until i saw the thread, even if the problems have been fixed and the person in question is gone they have dug such a deep hole i doubt they are gonna get any business, and i mean dna tube mods are few an far between that had a good thing going and the issues they first had were slightly understandable considering it was an emerging company but oh well thats the good thing about the us, good companies stick around bad ones dont.
i just saw the shanmods the other day on grimmgreens blog, they are super nice but all the preoders are pretty much closed out, which is a bummer because i wish i could do a satin brass/steel color scheme and they look like super quality mods as for the protovapor xpv i have seen it but it looks a little awkward, not form factor wise just asthetic wise hahaha not to say its not a good mod the fire button did catch my eye though too bad it doesnt take advantage of the wattage lock
i looked around for some reviews and takes on the D30s and seems to be good, only thing that bothers me is the battery, since the dna "checks in" on the battery and it wont let the output of the device exceed the capability of the battery. i mean, im not sure if id ever use the full 30watts but it would be nice knowing for sure it could do that. i have just emailed them some questions though

shanmods are nice for what they are and are not-they are simple working mods that are meant to be used . they are not museum pieces meant to be admired and barely touched. the problem with shanmods is this- she is a one person shop. while that is appealing to some, it carries with it some of the usual problems associated with such an operation. if she doesn't do something it doesn't get done. she can (and has) fall behind , be rushed , have pressing non-business concerns- all the things associated with a one person operation.communication can be slow. you just need to be aware of these things going in- when you have the mod in your hand and it is working great you are happy, but any glitch causes angst. if there is one thing i have noticed on this forum it's that vapors are impatient and want their gear yesterday.

nexgen messed up by taking pre-orders and talking up their product much too early. if their initial inexperience doesn't kill them than i think they will end up with a nice product and some satisfied customers. of course, some folks will never be satisfied and todays cyber world magnifies every problem and makes the tiniest voices seem unusually loud

protovapor makes the niciest dna mod for the money IMHO- the workmanship is top -notch and their customer service is superb. the form factor may look weird but pick one up and put it in your hand for a period of time and you will see just how comfortable and user friendly it is. i look at protovapor as the dna equivalent to provape and their provari. the product is solid , well-built, and with great customer service. just like a provari, they may not be for everybody , but everyone who ends up with one will love it. the pocket clip built into the mod is an example of a simple but brilliant idea- even if you it breaks it can easily be replaced.

Was there ever any feedback on the Cyborg mod????

good question- maybe because there was the initial run and it seems to be "out of stock" ever since? another mod that gets generally favorable reviews or comments is anything from mamumods. again, seems impossible to get one in the 2 minute time window it occassionally shows up for actual sale.....

There were some video reviews on it. I was looking to get one before they were initially released . .then they released only brass or aluminum (can't remember which or maybe it was both) and no stainless. On top of that - they did not release the mechanical firing switch . .or something like that . .so you couldn't actually use it as a mech. I don't know if they have that resolved now or not - I lost interest because of the above . .plus I ended up not liking the looks of it . .plus it was $$$$$$$$$.
