What do you use to wrap your coils?

Since moving down to 26g wire, I'm noticing the precision screwdriver set I have is leading to inconsistent wraps. I doubt it's my technique, my 30g coils came out perfect every time... I think the thicker gauge and the plastic handle material towards the beginning of the driver is causing inconsistent wraps. It is Hotspot central over here and I'm close to pulling my hair out! I'm looking for a good kit to purchase, or some sort of either better screwdrivers with handles not so large, or maybe drill bits? Not sure... I go from 1/16 up to 5/64 (don't quote me on exact measurement) so preferably something contain up to and including those sizes. Maybe amazon has something I've overlooked!

Also I heard of a coil winder before but can't seem to find one.

I use syringe needles 18 and 20 gauge. And kathal when I'm making super small coils. Also it sounds like you need a good pair of tweezers. Once you put the coil on the atomizer fire it a few times and the Kanthal will harden and stiffen, making it easier to work with. Then use the tweezers to squeeze the coils together. From there just fire and squeeze until they heat up evenly (though don't fire it while you are squeezing the coil)

I use the Gizmo deluxe Artistic coil winder. Anything with a handle, a smooth winding surface, and a same size end to allow the wire to slide off is fine. Drill bits, miniature phillips screwdriver, and plain old metal rods work. I like the Gizmo because it mounts with a thumb screw to a counter top and provides hands free operation. The three smallest rods wind nano, micro, and standard sized coils.

And if you want to make a 2 mm coil, easy to make a new rod out of a wire coat hanger.

I use the 1.83mm rod for Kayfun, Protank, and Nautilus. Depending on what I'm recoiling, I use 28ga or 32ga Kanthal. It winds either with ease and accuracy. I use the 1.83mm rod to hold the finished coil while installing it in a Kayfun. It's a little long, but works just fine for keeping the coils parallel while wrapping under the screws.

Any rod that you can bend a handle on will work in the coil winder. Smooth is better. Coat hanger type wire should be fine if you can find the right diameter.

I use one similar to this that my wife uses to make jewelry. It plugs into one of those little electric screw drivers. Just put one end of the wire into the slot, hold the other end tight, give the button a tap and I have six very tight coils!

Works great!
