The chimney coil seems like nonsense.
1. The inside of the coil is stuffed full and there is no air flow there; so the coil may be vertical, but it's not acting like a chimney at all.
2. The juice can flow through the coil easier if it's horizontal, simple physics, if the coil is vertical, the juice has to fight gravity.
3. The capillary action of juice in cotton IS affected by gravity.
4. Air will flow more efficiently along the curved side of a coil, there is less air disturbance; simple aerodynamics, look at a jet compared to a Mack truck.
Have I missed something?

If talking vertical mounted coils, well, one does not put their wick through the coil, the wick is wrapped around the outside of the coil, allowing the air the be driven through the middle. Verts are only an advantage when used with an rba that has the air supply directly below the coil build, such as the Estia, Aqua, Big Buddha, Russian/Kayfun,.... Verts can generally be vaped at higher watts too, since they have a higher wick to coil ratio, and the vape is flowing in a more streamline efficient path.

Find Verts to be of significant improvement in vape and purrformance on many rba's, enhancing their design. It's me purrferred configuration on many rba's.

Yes.
Instead of a wick running through the coil, and air flowing around the coil, when you build a chimney coil, the airflow is to go through the coil, and the wicking material is passed around the coil.

It is like some cartos.

The Veritas is another RDA designed for a vertical coil. In a standard RDA I see no real advantage as the air hole would not be in the right place to get the benefits of the vertical design. But an RBA designed for it would work great. It does bother me though that I have seen so many videos on the chimney and related coils like the double barrel where a vertical coil is built in a standard RBA and then the cotton is threaded thru the coil. This does defeat the purpose and makes for a poor coil.

I rebuild my kanger emow mega enclosed dual coils to a single vertical micro coil. As the mega has adjustable airflow control ring I can have this open as far as I need to suit my vaping style and I find that I get a more intense flavour and vapour production running my coils at a higher wattage on my istick as a vertical coil.

You think things through, so you'd best stay out of politics.

hmm, dbl barrel sounds suspiciously like the snake-eyes build, which became the iV-twin. Frak, was doing the single vert on the Russian a year ago.

but agreed, verts are only beneficial with the proper air supply orientation. though on some rba's need to mount semi-vertical because of mounting placement.

and yes, wicking verts one must be creative. boyscout knots and lashing tricks work well :D
