What does this mean?

Hey all,
I've noticed a few times when people talk about the GLV2 5v, a poster frequently replies with this ......

"BTW, the 5v GLV really isn't 5v. It's 12watts regardless of what you use on it. (yet another way to regulate voltage)"


I don't know what this means ..... can someone explain it?

I guess I still don't understand ..... because it's 2 - 3.7v batts resisted down to 5v?
I was wondering about the 12 watt thing. I am new to vaping, and still don't fully understand the battery stacking, etc. I am buying cartos/attys in a "5v PV" range ..... SR, 3.0 ohm, etc. That is where I should be for a 5v GLV2, correct? That was my concern .....

added - I have been going off of the chart on Jay's site that recommends carto/atty ohms for each model.

I've just started vaping as well and the GLV-2 was my first mod. I've tried a variety of different resistances and found that 3 ohm cartos are pretty much perfect for my taste. I wouldn't go lower but you could certainly try higher resistance cartos if you want cooler vapor or if you feel your juice is still a bit overcooked. I use the 3 ohm ones on a variable volt mod that I have as well (when I set it anywhere over about 4 volts) but find that the GLV gives me a more satisfying vape although I can't explain why. Maybe it's because the GLV looks so damn cool

I have been using 2.8-3.0 ohm with good results on the 5v, and 1.7-2.2 ohm on the 3.7v .... again, really nice. I just got a bit thown. I don't want my new babies to blow up or anything.

This post from Russ (6pointprime here on ECF) and the video linked in it is may explain things better than the review player30 mentioned.

The science & math are a bit much for me to try and articulate.

I think most 5v GLV owners prefer ~3 ohm atties/cartos but it's nice to know that whatever you may have on hand (or can find on sale) will work equally as well.

Thanks, I watched that video from the GLV site ("technical stuff") but didn't really get what it was supposed to mean. So, when people plug stuff into Ohms Law, and figure their watts, I can pretty safely say "I vape at 12"? Does the 3.7v do the same thing? That would be cool. LOL
It's nice to know that we won't accidentally fry stuff if we confuse our 2.0 and 3.0 Boges since we have 5v and 3.7v. Wow, GLVs realy ARE "plug and play"!

As I understand it, the "self-adjusting" wattage is a function of the 5v regulated head-cap and the dual 3.7v AW ICR123 batteries. The output from a 3.7v GLV will vary based on the resistance of your atties/cartos.

I prefer LR cartos on my Mini & Super Mini; SRs are do-able but just don't give me the same performance. Of course, YMMV.

I have been using LR on my Mini also, but trying to keep the cartos straight between LR and SR is a chore when my husband just lays them around. I have been on it so far, and will come up with some sort of marking system soon, but it's nice to know it's not that big of a deal if hubby puts a 2.0 on his 5v.

FYI, PureSmoker sells SR & LR Boge cartos with resistance marked on each one. The picture below is a stainless steel carto but their black paper-wrapped versions are also marked.

Ooo, thanks! I was trying to go black for LR, and ss for SR, but doesn't help much on our punched cartos. Daughter has nail polish pens with very fine tips, I was thinking of putting tiny dot on bottom of carto rim (right above the threads).
