What exactly is the LP made for?

Hey everyone. I've never posted in this forum, but have been coveting a Reo for a long time. I hope this question doesn't come up constantly, but I always allow myself a couple moronic posts when using any sub-forum for the first time. ;)

So in a nutshell, what is the low profile model absolutely necessary for? If I were to buy a Reo, I don't have a very large collection of atomizers. I'd just use an RM, and the only others I have are an IGO-L, smok ("Octopus"), and a Patriot. Do all of those fit on the regular Reos? And what about something pre-built like a Cisco/357 or a run of the mill carto, can those fit on either model?

Thanks, appreciate it. I had a Vmod for a while last year, so I'm not a total noob to ye olde squonking (well technically, that was just tilting... ha).

The LP grand has a milled down catch cup to enable it to fit any bottom feed atomizer. Sure, you can run those other ones on the reo, but it will be like any mechanical with a dripper, and won't take advantage of one of reos greatest assets, the bottom feed ability. The regular reo will only take bf rbas up to, I believe 14mm. If you get an LP, you might want to go ahead with an LP RM2, or the IGO that Rob sells. I believe you will be thoroughly taken with reos and won't look back.

Pretty much what pwheeler said. LP can take any factory or modded BF diameter RDA or BF carto/atty style (cisco/357 ect). The normal sized catch cup models (regular non LP'd) can only take atty's up to 14mm.

I believe folks have modded the IGO-L, the smok octopus and the Patriot for BF, all on their own, so it is possible to use those on a REO and get full functionality.

This is a newbie opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, but if you are buying a new Reo direct from Rob there doesn't seem to be any advantage to getting the regular, non-LP version. The LPs will be much more forward-compatible to any new attys that come out or that Rob converts to bottom feeders.

That said, I've had 3 Reos now, all bought or traded on the forum. One of the ones I had was LP, the other two are regular versions. For a bunch of reasons personal to me (basically, I have small hands), I much preferred the two non-LP Reos and traded away the LP grand. So now I have a conundrum that if I get any new Reos I would either have to continue to get the regular version or would have some attys that will only work on some reos, which may wind up annoying. Long story short, unless you have a compelling reason not to (e.g., you want side-firing buttons like I do), I would definitely try to get an LP.

Oh, and the Cisco and cartos will work on both versions. They'll be less likely to overflow on the regular version, since they were basically what the larger catch cup was designed for in the first place. But honestly, I'm terrible at building coils etc. so I bought both cartos and attys in addition to the RM2 thinking I would be too lazy to deal with building it. And while they're great on the Reo, the RM2 is about 10x better. You're not likely to wind up using them all that often, so I wouldn't make that the deciding factor.

And an informative answer in 10 minutes, on a Saturday morning. Gotta love it. Thanks!

I'm glad I asked my question, as you really cleared things up. I guess I really didn't understand the dimensions of the devices until your post. I had no idea that the current RDAs out there physically would not fit down into the well/catch cup area of a non-LP.

Alrighty then, so it looks like I'd want to get the low profile model. And thank you as well to the folks that swooped in while I was typing this reply. Yet another friendly group of folks in a corner of ECF. :)

I have all standard REOs but that's only because I bought them before the LP option was available. It has worked great for me because all of the RBAs I run were made as bottom fed RBAs. The REO grand is what most bottom fed RBAs were designed to fit.

Nowadays, I have heard of atleast one larger diameter Rebuildable dripper that also offers a bottomfed option. And many people have purchased large diameter drippers and modded them to work on a LP REO. REO himself is soon going to be offering some of these for sale. These larger diameter drippers will not fit a standard REO. You will need an LP for these.

So basically I recommend that unless cartos or factory attys like ciscos / HH 357's are in your future you get an LP. It will ensure that basically any / all current and future bottomfed RBAs or modified drippers will fit your REO.

All my future REOs will be LP. :)

Bottom fed Kool-Aid always tastes better! I am kidding (walks off to look in cupboard for Kool-Aid)

While I have never owned a VMod I read that a few members came here after being both satisfied and disappointed with that mods performance and quality.

Everyone else gave you great responses to your LP uncertainty and I love mine
