And honestly you shouldn't be using RBAs if you don't have something to check the resistance of what you build. Not to mention you're using an ego-style PV I'm guessing?

edit - Not to sound like a ...., because now that I read what I wrote it kind of does. If you're in a bind to vape, wrap high. I don't like saying this because RBAs can be dangerous...especially on a PV like what I'm thinking you're using.

Get the 34, and wrap a 5/6 or a 6/7 wrap and you'll be good. If you plan to stay RBAs long term (highly suggested) you NEED a higher amp limit mod, or a mechanical. Then you need to educate yourself on battery safety and buy a multimeter. THEN you start testing with wire to find "your" vape.

I've got a multimeter and know how to use it. I don't use batteries, it's a DIY 5v passthru. Thanks so much for the help. 34 guage it is, with #400 SS.

Well, what do ya know. I got the 34 awg kanthal a-1 and.. it taste like burning ... hairs, gets serious hot spots from where the coil goes to the center post and negative post unless its ridiculously close, and when i can remove the hot spots, it produces terribly thin vapor even after messing with airflow. Rage. 2 hours and $5 wasted, still on my last burnt carto. :( I have determined that the nasty burnt taste comes from burning eliquid, always thought it was burning wick.

I suppose I got the wrong wire. So back to the question.. what wire should I use? 32? Is 5v just too much for an rba? Why does it not work?

Does no one else vape RBA's at 5v??? Why can't I find any information on this?

ps, once an ss wick burns some eliquid, is the burnt flavor stuck in it like with cartos?

You could keep chasing it and if you do I think 34ga Kanthal A1 is your best bet, 32ga will take to many wraps and 36ga is way to thin and not durable.

If you've built your own pass through you can build your own box mod and that's what I'd recommend. Look up the OKR builds in the modding forum. It's an easy build and you can get that chip with a 6amp limit for < $10 + parts and have a vv build for $20ish that will fire anything you throw at it. Then you can use 28 to 32ga in your RBA depending on what your shooting for with voltage adjustment and have much better results.
