What happens when two links in a coil touch each other?

I'm thinking of modding my Vivi Nova to have a longer wick and I'd like to create a new coil from Kenthal 20-gauge. The thing is that I realize I have to coil up the nichrome more than I would with a 32-gauge. What would happen if, say, I accidentally let two of the links touch each other? Would I damage the battery or would I simply damage the wire? Obviously, the wire is much, much cheaper! :p

I read this, went on to another post, then it hit me...you said 20 gauge. Took a minute for my brain to catch up...still trying to wake up here and coffee isn't working lol. Anyway, you might have some issues with 20 gauge - like having to make a 3ft coil to get 1.5 ohms out of it - kind of problem. I checked the charts quickly for KA, KA1, D, Nic80, 70, 60, etc...these tend to run 1 ohm or less per ft. So, theoretically, you're about to make a coil that your pv/battery may not even fire. Of course, my math could be off as I'm still barely conscious. :)

I haven't looked it up but, I've been up a while and I agree. No way you're going to make a coil that will fire with 20ga Kanthal and cram it into a vivi nova. At least not without a modification that would make the vivi nova as big around as a mayonaise jar.

MiracleWhip jar would work a lot better:lol:

Yeah, well I would have loved to make an atomizer that big, but nah, I'm too lazy. I was too nicked up while writing the original post, so here's the gauge I actually have: 32-gauge Kanthal 0.20 mm wire.

That's the thickest wire I could find in my local e-cig site under its modding section and I ordered that. You see, I don't want to make too many coils, so I thought getting a nice thick wire would prevent me from having to lengthen the circuit.

OK, so 32 AWG is just fine, as far as I've seen.

OK, so I made the calculations:

Kanthal 0.20 has 43 ohms per meter, or 0.043 Ohms/mm.

    2/0.043 = ~46.5

I need 4.65 cm of wire to reach 2 Ohms. That is going to be a pretty tough one to pull, I think..

32 ga kanthal is fine, I'm vaping with it in a Penelope right now.

So, today I just got my order of Vivi Nova v2s with the short wicks. I replaced all the wicks and re-coiled them with new Kanthal 32 AWG wiring to achieve 1.8 Ohms on each. It measures perfectly because of my precision in calculating the length of wire needed. However, I get a slightly burned taste if I pull very frequently from it. I notice that if I give it a sufficient break, I get a much nicer vapor. I can pull just a little and I get these enormous clouds of nice smoke. I'm definitely sticking to this!

My country doesn't have Vivi Nova 2.5s, so I had to make my own, and the experiment was extremely successful.
