Does anyone know what the typical coil temperature is when we vape? I use a vivi nova and vape at 4.5 V most of the time. On the vivi nova head, there is a rubber like piece at the bottom that insulates the positive and negative electrodes, and the coil simply slips in between. I wonder why the coil doesn't melt the rubber piece since it's touching it?

Or does the heating wire only heats up at the coil portion?

Well think of it like an electric stove... turn it on hi and leave off the pot, the coil will glow red in due time. Put the pot on the stove with water in it and the bottom of the pot may get to 250F. Let the water boil out of it and then the bottom of the pot will get to what ever the temp of the coil is running at ( most likely 700F+, it will melt Aluminum pots)
The juice soaked wick acts like the pot of water, keeping it from getting too hot, but once the wick dries out ( the pot is empty) you get burned wick/taste. I did a test with a non contact thermometer, 1.8ohms at 13W gave me a reading of 440F (held on button for 10 seconds then auto cut off occured) gauge maxed at 440F.
