Thanks Robin. I'm thinking that the jumping resistance might have something to do with my lack of skill at getting the coil mounted. I had the worst time getting the coil around the mounting screws.
That can be tricky at first for sure. I put a Luer lock needle thru the coil to give me something to hold onto (that is not as heavy as a jig or screwdriver.) I find it helpful to to have the coil ends going in the direction that the screws ,will tighten. In other words, I slightly curve each end around the post so when I set it there to tighten, I am tightening with the curve. It really helps if I get eye level with the atty (getting up isn't so easy though). I've read on the thread that there are replacement screws with large heads available. Can't remember where.
Once mounted, another thing I have found important is to check that the legs are not touching the deck in any way. Could lead to a short or jumping resistance. I don't set the coils high but just high enough that there is NO metal to metal contact, except for the screws of course. If any doubt I use my Luer needle, re thread, and gently pull up.
