Thanks Robin. I'm thinking that the jumping resistance might have something to do with my lack of skill at getting the coil mounted. I had the worst time getting the coil around the mounting screws.

That can be tricky at first for sure. I put a Luer lock needle thru the coil to give me something to hold onto (that is not as heavy as a jig or screwdriver.) I find it helpful to to have the coil ends going in the direction that the screws ,will tighten. In other words, I slightly curve each end around the post so when I set it there to tighten, I am tightening with the curve. It really helps if I get eye level with the atty (getting up isn't so easy though). I've read on the thread that there are replacement screws with large heads available. Can't remember where.

Once mounted, another thing I have found important is to check that the legs are not touching the deck in any way. Could lead to a short or jumping resistance. I don't set the coils high but just high enough that there is NO metal to metal contact, except for the screws of course. If any doubt I use my Luer needle, re thread, and gently pull up.

I got one of my Kayfun lite attys today. First try was a bust. The coil was too low of a resistance. I'm on a second coil that's reading 1.7. The Vape is really hot. Part of the problem is I can't turn the watts down under 6.2 on the istick. This coil is 2mm. Im wondering if it'd be better with a 2.5 or 3mm coil and a little higher resistance.

on the istick, i was running bigger coils in the neighborhood of 2.1 ohm or so and that seemed to cool things down.

My coil was reading 1.7 to start but now is showing 1.5. I feel like I'm taking in a lot more nic than I ever did with the nautilus. Is it normal for the resistance to jump around. I never really noticed before. I think I might like a 2 ohm coil better. One thing for sure is I'm taking shorter draws.

you might check and be sure the build deck is tightened down to the connector screw - i've had to shim mine to bring the connector screw out of the 510 connector a hair while making sure it was tight to the positive terminal side of the build deck.if the build deck/connector screw isn't tight, whenever you twist the atty on to the mod, the connector screw can turn and do weirdo pseudo short things to the deck making the resistance jump all over the place.
of course it could be your coil connector screws too - those things are a pain in the .... sometimes :)

I'll bet that's it because I had to bring the screw out to make connection. What did you use to space yours out?

yep - if that screw gets loose, your coil is gonna do all kinds of weird stuff.
hehehe...

well... the last one, i used a piece of an old e-juice bottle.cut a square out of the side out of an empty bottle of juice, heat the screw, stick it through the slice of bottle and then cut a small enough circle so it fits flush inside the connector.
it's been humming along just fine for months now

    Somewhere between here and there
For now I tightened up the center post screw and pulled up on the istick post so the kayfun would make good contact. It's reading a solid 1.4 ohms with no fluctuations. I changed the istick over to vv mode and am running at 3.5v with the air hole adjuster tightened up some like robin recommended and am getting good and solid hits every time. The kayfun lite plus V2 is a good topper.

Do you folks have some recommendations on coil diameter? The kuro coilers I got will do 2,2.5, and 3mm coils. Right now I've got a 2mm coil in it. What's the difference?

    good deal!!!

for normal kayfun builds i use something just a hair bigger than 5/64 which is just about 2 mm.

there's some talk of coil diameter vs wicking here that might help:

That's a great thread Gutter. I will re-read for sure. LOTS of goodies to digest.

Tis great to hear that you are getting the Kayfun sorted. It's an amazing device. What you can do is when it is time to re-coil, which can take a while, try another jig. I've done both 2 and 2.5. I seem to be using 2.5 more now and in truth, I'm not sure why I switched. Habit? Perhaps I was trying to sort the dry hits that I was getting from some of the higher VG juices. Actually, what fixed that was tightening the draw by decreasing the airflow.

I cleaned it out, put in a new wick, and filled it with lemonberry. I got impatient waiting for it to wick and ended up flooding it. Just got it cleared out and working right again. I probably should have put a new coil in too.

Not to worry...you'll get another chance. I typically re-wick every week, as I tend to relegate one device to one flavor and then I re-coil maybe every month or 2, unless I have a problem or want to experiment. (I do dry burn when I re-wick).

I remembered reading that so I did do a dry burn. The DHT made a real mess of the wick and coil so I made sure to clean it good and dry burn.

Yep, some juices do a number on the wick. I generally run the P-38 in my Kayfun that I use everyday when out and about. Very light-heavier PG, therefore only need to re-wick once a week. (I can tell when it is time as I get less vapor).

Then on the other hand, is my other beloved Black Clove. Even though it's higher PG, it is hard on wicks. I run it in my Mini Reo and use when I'm home. Very easy to work on (no draining of tank, etc). Just unscrew the top, re-wick, and I'm set. Kinda like re-wicking an Igo-L. Good thing cause I re-wick after about 6 ml's. But so worth it!

My only complaints are having to empty the tank to work on it and that tiny screw for refilling. Not huge deals but inconvenient.

you'll get that build dialed in after a couple of weeks and be able to do it in your sleep.i'm happy to see you getting into it as well! :toast:

although, i still have one that is yet to get going well. i think one of the channels had a manufacturing defect (one side was shallower than the other)=-0]';p][=-and i've slowly filed the shallower side down and seem to be getting bubbles on both sides now but still getting lots of dry hits and puny vapor production.
