I have been reading through various posts trying to understand all the jargon and picking up valuable tips when a thought struck me. What do you do if the power goes out?

I am sure someone has thought of a backup plan on here. Every winter we have a couple days of bad weather around here so I thought I would ask before it happens.

You all are so informative and helpful to us new vapors, keep up the great work!

It turns out the itaste MVP is quite possibly the best "backup" PV you can own for this reason alone. every day I carry my MVP and it's accessory cable around with me in my messenger bag. I almost never need it but there's been at least a half a dozen times that i've had to charge up my cell phone or top off my GF's Ego battery for her.

If you place an order for one on fasttech now you *may* be able to get it before xmas :)

I have a total of 3 batteries now. One is fully charged Just in case for that reason. If the power is going to be out for more than a couple of days I might be in trouble. Then again I have a store about 60 miles from me. So if the power goes out I am going down there because more than likely they will still have power or at least I hope they do.

That's why we have a full blown 24 KV natural gas, and propane (500 gal) powered Kohler generator w/ auto switching.

Nothing beats coming home after a nice vacation or a hard day at work only to find the ice cream oozing out the bottom of the freezer!

:vapor:

If the gas lines are ruptured and we run out of propane, time to move or jump ship! LOL

Plus just in case: I have a USB mobile power pack and inverter I carry in my truck:2cool:

Well, as you go along you develop a pile of batteries for devices you use all the time and "leftovers" from devices you have possibly outgrown. If I'm aware of any really bad weather approaching I just make sure I have everything charged up and 'ret to go. If things ever got really, really bad I have two chargers I could run off a car "convenience outlet" - cough, cough - cigarette lighter socket.

There are also lot's of emergency USB battery packs that can be used to charge anything USB. Price on those corresponds to capacity. And - of course - they need to be kept charged to serve their purpose. The larger capacity packs could recharge an eGo up to 10 times.

Heh. Good question.

In my case, I have family and friends in various parts of the Island who I could bother for a couple of hours on such dire occasions. We don't get snowed in here. Still, I guess it's not a bad idea to have a cigarette lighter adapter. (Hmmm..I still have 6 packs of cigarettes I have no intention of using at this point....?) ;)

We got hurricane-force storns in winter in Scotland and remote areas went a couple of days without power each winter . When storms were impending,we would charge everything up. Our car lighter thing never worked, so we couldn't rely on that. But, I would do things like drive to the nearest town with power (not the least because of the car heater and radio and anything to break the boredom) and would find an outlet at a library or cafe for my phone.

I have three batteries (so far). I keep them all charged. I would be OK for at least a day and could drive to power if needed.

We have weather here, lots of it. When it looks like an especially large dose is on its way, we make sure we have enough (1)firewood, (2) food, (3) candles. (Actually, the first thing I check is the supply of good, unread books. In an emergency, I could always re-read some Terry Pratchett.)

Then I test the generator. When we lose power, the roads are often impassable, and there is no B&M within a two hour drive anyhow.

If all else fails—as a newbie I haven't vaped through a blizzard yet—I guess I could try mixing a drop of e-juice with apple sauce. Sour apple might go well...

If worst comes to worst and the whole town/local area is out of power, a generator or car battery may be your only options. generators are expensive if you don't already have one, but come in handy if you need to run appliances also. WarHawk's solar suggestion is great (and I intend to look onto it, Thanks WarHawk!), but a cheap DC-AC power inverter can be used also if you don't have a car 12v adapter for your charger. They can directly hook up to a car 12v battery using positive/negative cabled alligator clips (great for a spare 12v battery sitting in the garage); or hook into a accessory power port (cig lighter) in a car. They provide an AC 120v outlet that provides power just like plugging into an outlet in your home. They range from about $17 for a 80 watt single 120v outlet that plugs into your car and will power most small devices (like a battery charger) to $500 for a 5000 watt multi-outlet industrial high watt/amp inverters. Here's a link to Harbor Freights' selection:

Always having 2-7 days worth of batteries in rotation also helps. This gives each battery a rest period so they aren't hashed/abused as often which will extend the life of the battery.

Hope this helps.

I never even thought of this. This could be the justification I need to buy yet more vape gear! Seriously, I'm glad you posted this. With three people in the house that vape it could turn very ugly if our power went out for a couple of days.

Between my 2 eGo 1100 mah and 3 sets of batteries for my VV mod which I keep all charged up pretty much always I think I could make it about 3-4 days with out power. I'd be doing a lot of charging when it comes back on. I suppose in an emergency I could get a few charges off my laptop and make it another couple days if it came down to that. The worst I could ever see happening here though is a freak winter storm with a 1-2 day outage, and even that would be rare.
