Aluminum will oxidize simply by exposure to air. It doesn't matter how clean you keep your mod, aluminum oxide will form over time (within approximately 100 picoseconds of exposing the aluminum to air) on the firing pin. Aluminum oxide is an electrical insulator, which is bad for getting power out of your battery. NoAlOx cuts aluminum oxide and prevents its formation (it's in the name -- No Aluminum Oxide), thus resulting in a good electrical connection.

That said, even without noalox you'll obviously still get an electrical connection. You'll just get a better connection if you use it.

True but the contact points on a REO are both steel. Spring steel firing pin and steel spring at the base of the battery.

I can assure you I get full power with no noalox. All it really does for steel connections is make them sticky so lint and other crap sticks right where you don't want it.

Steel/noalox/lint/ battery terminal is not a quality connection.

Now on aluminum tube mods where the body is part of the connection (2 parts screwed together) it is a great idea there. Plus much less likely for stuff to get stuck in there, more surface area and usually sealed tight.

The firing pin on a grand or mini is a good distance away from the batter when not firing, plenty of room for stuff to gunk it up. and its just a tiny contact area as opposed to several threads around a 1.5" aluminum tube mod.

Well, huh. Then why is noalox recommended? As you said, it does nothing for steel. I just assumed that because noalox was recommended, the firing pin was aluminum and therefore should be noaloxed. If it's not, all my previous info is irrelevant :)
