I'd be willing to say that any fully mechanical mod can take a beating. As long as they're soundly built out of a good metal and none of the parts bend or break during their abuse...they should always work lol. I mean...its a pretty simple design.

true, but the precise comes with a fit and finish lifetime warranty... and i'm not the biggest fan the style of the curve.... look like a feminine hygiene product....
that is exactly the problem with some of the clones... the metal isnt up to par with what i would consider durable... I've been able to oval out the tube of a CCTS with my bare hand...
as long as the guys making the clones & less expensive mods, could make their mods more robust, those things would last a lifetime....
I think the K100 is a good starter, that can take some abuse... but didnt really get to tinker with it that much so i cant say if it would last me for the long run.

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of it either. It's just too heavy. Uncomfortably so. The button has a sharp edge to it and after an hour of use it starts to dig into my pinky. It's is well made though. The only reason I keep it around is in the event that the FDA cracks a whip and makes vaping illegal. I could start extracting my own nicotine and DIY my juice. After all my devices die I would still have the curve.
Paranoid? Maybe. But it makes me feel more secure.
I was looking for something I could take hiking and discovered the diamond today. It appears tough and it won't break the bank. I don't have it, I'm just looking around for something similar.

I can't speak about the mech mod part, but as far as Montana goes you are a lucky person. I used to hit Yellowstone and Glacier Park yearly for a while back in the day and they rocked big time. The one thing that always weirded me out about Glacier was that it was so eerily quiet for such a beautiful place. I never heard birds chirping or anything else, but saw plenty of goats (rams ?) in the mountains. Yellowstone is a place that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime, if not more. I gotta go back now. Take care.
K100. Cheap enough that if you managed to lose it you wouldn't be out tons of money. Its feels very solid in the hand ... has a sturdy locking ring ... and performs pretty darn well.
As far as "easily fixed" ... most mechanical switches are made of general hardware that can be obtained at a hardware store.
The CCTS is another good option but the K100 definitely feels more weighty and has a more simplistic button for repair.
If you don't think there is a chance of losing your mod and you want something a little higher end ... the legacy from puresmoker gets good reviews as well. Under $100 for a USA made mod is wonderful.

As other folks here say, you'll never regret picking up a Legacy. Simple, bombproof, good looking, and readily available.
I'm not even sure the original poster is still following this thread. I saw a couple of videos on YouTube on the Gripper and couldn't resist. I'm not going to cry (very long) if it gets damaged and it's small enough to take anywhere + holds a reasonable charge time.

I have a couple GLV mini's that are tough and easiy fit in a pocket, very handy if you can get by at 3.7 vaping. I still grab them to use as they are such a portable tough little unit. Great Lakes Vapers has them. bnrk
I wouldn't really call it "idiot proof", but it is SO TOUGH that even klutzy me has yet to make a dent in it.... the Totally Wicked Vape-Pro... VERY solid/sturdy metal construction, one solid piece with no seams minus the screw in cap for the battery. I've dropped it many, many times on concrete AND a very hard bare floor and it still keeps on ticking like the day I bought it... just don't get the black chrome version, it's a thin coating that scratches easily. Runs about $100 for the body but it is SO worth it! American made too so you know the quality control is tight... and TW has awesome customer service... it also comes w/ a 6 mo. warranty.
Another really tough APV I can think of is the Lavatube. I don't know tons about this one since I'm not an owner (just have friends that have them), but it is definitely a little more idiot proof than the Vape-Pro, only having variable voltage and no other settings.
And the winner for idiot-proofness is the Bolt. Also not an owner, but again, got friends with this one. No settings at all, just a button for making vapor. Cheap yet just as tough as the others.
