What is the difference between using watts or volts as method of firing a coil ?

I've been at this for 3 weeks now, and going strong!
I am upgrading to a SID battery mod. (should be here in about a week) I hear the talk of using watts instead of voltage when using your atty's or tanks and such. What are the advantages of one over the other, and how might I apply the right settings.

If you set your mod in variable wattage mode to 8 watts, for example, you can attach an atomizer with a resistance of 1.5Ω or one with a resistance of 3Ω and get a similar vape experience with each. Variable wattage automatically takes into account the resistance of your attached atty and calculates the proper voltage.

If you use variable voltage mode you will need to calculate the proper voltage for each different atomizer you use and change the setting accordingly.

As a starting off point, I would suggest setting your mod to 6W to start with and increase it step by step until you reach your desired vaping experience.

when you set it to the wattage you like when you change atomizers or cartos with different ohms the vape will be pretty much the same so if you find you like the vapor at 10 watts you can just set it and forget it so to speak. rather than having to set your voltage every time you change your atty or carto to the voltage you want. say you had your SID at 5 volts with a 2.3 ohm carto and you put a 1.5 ohm atomizer on and forget to lower the voltage you will get a nasty burnt hit that will explode your head, but if your vaping a 2.3 ohm carto at 12 watts and then you put a 1.5 ohm atomizer on it will vape just fine.

hope that helps

Phew, glad I haven't tried that. I need my head.

Thank you guys for the help here, I read that link and it seems VW is definitely the way to go. I can change my atty's (5 so far) which do have different ohms and not worry so much about burning my juice. All we need now is all the juice to be the same viscosity, and a sure fire way to keep the coil wick saturated for those times when it seems like I need to chain vape...

Cotton with good delivery system and wicking problems go away.

I use 100% cotton yarn. Make sure it's cotton, as synthetics would not be good!

VW is a nice convenience, but VV isn't a problem either. And no need to calculate. Just start at a low volt setting, turn up until happy. (Same is true for VW mode. Different juices taste better at different power, so if you're swapping toppers and flavors, you may want to change the power anyway.)
