I've got an atty that keeps smoking and smelling like burnt paper.

I had a close look under a bright light with a magnifying glass, and I saw some white hairs or threads... what is this? Is this what transfers the juice to the element?

It looks as though it may be touching, or a little too close and perhaps that's why it's burning, tastes and smells bad, and makes me feel sick if I inhale?

thanks for the links... ive been reading for the past couple hours and learned it's the wick. im pretty much convinced its a bad atty, nothing i can do to make it better. i soaked it in alcohol, rinsed it in hot water, dried it off really well. it was still smoking... so i ran it from my manual battery a bunch of times and eventually the smoking stopped, so i thought great it's fixed. i dripped until it was good and primed, let it sit a while.. then lit it up... same freakin stink and taste!

im giving up on this atty, its bunk.

You've got nothing to loose!! Pull the wick out and give it a try, you might be surprised. An atty like the one you describe became my favorite after pulling the wick!!
