Let's see. Candle wax/melted crayon can be removed from fabric/carpets by applying a paper bag and ironing on low. Only needed this once but it worked! The wax re melts and the paper absorbs it.

I use microfiber cloths on everything (especially my glasses)

A swiffer cover can be crocheted/knit to save the expense of buying new ones and this one is machine washable.

Children/husbands can be bribed into cleaning for far less then the cost of hiring a professional- and they generally know where the dishes go.

Tell your man you get turned on when he does the dishes (takes out the trash, sweeps the floor) Then prove you mean it.

I love my zip strip! It's one handy dandy little thing. Ours came from Home Depot and was about $3.00.

Yep, it's called "Zip It!" Best tool ever, and here in Maryland, it's still about $2.00. I work for Home Depot, and plumbing is my background. I sell lots of these to people who think they need a plumber @ $100/hr or more, or an expensive snake when the drains run slow. Even the small bathroom sink needs to be "zipped" now and then. Any drain really. I use mine on the drain at the bottom of the outdoor stairwell. It fills with small particles through the year, even if there is a screen on it. After about 6-8 months you'll need to replace it because the teeth wear off, but at that price, it's ok. And oh so much safer than drain liquids.

Actually no.. And I'm allergic to bleach.
When my mom taught me this I about had a panic attack but it really did work.

The long story that I was going to save you.. but might make me make a bit more sense (I'll try and shorten it)....

I was 12, I grabbed a hot iron by the metal face and found out the hard way that it was on (I'd been told that it wasn't hot). I burnt my ENTIRE hand on the face of that iron, I think the only thing I didn't get on the face of it was part of my thumb. And because I wasn't really paying attention to it I'd actually managed to pick up the iron and had it about a foot in the air before I registered the pain. Parts of my skin pealed off onto the face of the iron when I dropped it. Mom tried the old butter trick, ice water, warm water, just about every first aid item in the house, nothing would make it stop hurting. She begged me to go to the doctor but I refused, I hate doctors, I don't care if I'm bleeding to death..I will not go to the doctor. So she says brings up the bleach idea and told me I either got to stick my hand in the bleach and deal with the rash that I knew I'd get.. or she'd have people tie me up and force me to the doctor the hard way. I chose the bleach. Sure enough after soaking my hand for about 5min the pain was gone. My hand was blistered and nasty looking for about a week but after that 5min soak it didn't hurt any more than a scraped knee. (And a couple benadryl fixed the rash right up :) )

It sounds crazy to anyone that I tell about it but I know first hand that it really does work.

Wow, I'm sorry that happened to you. But I gotta ask: why was your mom begging you to go to the doctor? I mean, being the parent, doesn't she have the final word in cases like this? :( I'm sure you know better than any of us why she didn't force you to go, but I'm just imagining the possibility of an infection that could, and has, even killed people. Can't remember the name of it, when an infection won't go away and gets worse...septic? Anyone know?

Okay, here's my tip. Sorry if it's already been posted, and lots of people don't believe me, but it's true:

when loading the dishwasher, don't rinse the dishes first. That's right. Leave them icky. With the exception of LOOSE food, and EGGS, everything else will come off in the dishwasher, and is supposed to be left on the dishes. Why?

The main reason is because of the way dishwasher soap works. It is manufactured chemically to adhere to the food, or whatever it finds. Therefore, if there isn't any food on the dishes, it actually adheres to the finish of the dish/glass, and over time, will deteriorate it. Ever seen glasses or glass bowls, platters, baking dishes that have what looks like a white film on them? That's because they were rinsed and washed in the dishwasher for many years, and the soap has caused the finish to break down. Some people don't ever put crystal or good dishes in the dishwasher at all.

So don't rinse the dishes and watch how clean they come out:). You won't believe it. But I promise it's true. Provided you are using good soap, and have adequate hot water leading to the dishwasher. Remember that your dishwasher heats HOT water, not cold water. So don't drain the water heater and then try to run the dishwasher.

Rags, I didn't know half of that stuff about the dishwasher! Thanks!:p

I killed my little maids! Or maybe they just moved. I found another red ant bed a bit farther away to do my scrubbing. For those of you who don't know my secret to very clean baking dishes....I put the unwashed pan on or very near a red ant mound (away from the house of course) and leave it there for a couple of days. It looks stupid but works like a charm! It seems they can scape off even the tiniest bits of burned on stuff. I also use them for BBQ grates.
My baking dishes get rinsed off and then put through the dishwasher to sanitize. Sparkling clean!

All some very interesting tips! I wish I had read about the newspaper a week ago. I just had my whole yard landscaped and weeds are already coming through the mulch.

QUESTION: Does anyone know of an effective way for me to chase these disgustingly weird lizards into my neighbor's yards???? I am terrified of them. I think they are Brown Anoles with collars and something prehistoric looking running along their backs.

My yard is invested to the point I hire someone to pull weeds and no longer enjoy my yard. 8-o

These are cuban brown anoles. They are great for eating bad bugs on your plants and won't hurt you. My son picks them up and "clips" them on his nose.

I don't know if this really works or not..But I am going to try it!
Staple a bagggie full of water with a penny in it by a window or door. It is supossed to keep flies away. It seems with the refection and distortion of the penny in water with thier prism eyes..it looks like a spiderweb!

Here is East Texas, we use this a LOT, but we use it not only to repel flies, but the dreaded ninja mosquitos.

Several of our lake area eateries with outdoor table (mostly for the smokers ya know) have these hanging around and have few if any flies or mosquitos.

Tip #2: Apple Cider Vinegar

If you have problem skin, apple cider vinegar can be used to clarify dull skin by removing dirt and excess oil. Once you remove dirt and oil from your face, your pores will be able to open up and your skin will look and feel healthier. This will help to eliminate acne, and prevent future acne breakouts. You can use apple cider vinegar as an astringent by mixing 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of distilled water. Vinegar can also be used to solve dandruff problems. Pour vinegar into your hair, massaging it into the scalp. Let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse it out. You can repeat this process until the dandruff disappears.

Apple cider vinegar has great medicinal properties. The apple cider vinegar "with the Mother" seems to work best for me. Google will help you find info on it. It has resolved some dermatology issues for me and some severe gastro issues for hubby, although the taste is a bit yucky, it works. I have used it on the dog's skin and his "hot spots" go away quickly. The vinegar "with the Mother" is labeled as such and is usually available at health food stores or in the health food section at large grocery stores. It so many beneficial uses it's worth it to google and read up.

The Best thing I've gotten into is to wash my clothes with Soap Nuts.. They are amazing!!! Saves on buying detergent and also detergent is made with crude oil.. Laundry looks amazing and soft.. You can add bleach if you want, but they say to use Oxy Clean... If you want a true sent you just add afew drops of scented oil to the bag and throw it into the dryer...
