Dunno if this will be helpful, but there was a great topic called HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SILVER BULLET here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/altsmoke/38909-how-care-your-sb.html

probably lots of useful info about stuff not just battery related. :)

Altsmoke does say on their site to use
What batteries do I use?
This unit was made to hold ONE Protected 18650 2400mAh Battery and this is the only battery that we recommend.

While they do list IMRs to buy keep in mind that IMRs are not essentially *protected* batts, just safe chemistry. You might want to ask them to clarify that. To me, protected means protected.

Interesting. I assumed I was using as recommended. Thanks for the link. I'm gonna have to read up later.
Ordered 2 new springs and a new bat from altsmoke last night.

Did you ask in the Altsmoke supplier forum about what happened? The owner Rob (halopunker) and Chad (cddz) the manufacturer stop in that forum frequently to answer questions. I've never seen them in this forum.

AltSmoke

I didn't. I took all the advice from this thread and bought a new spring and protected batts.
It is actually in Chad's possession right now getting refinished. Going from green to white. Can't freaking wait honestly.

I have used both IMR and protected batteries in both my Altsmoke BB and Silver Bullet. When I first got them, I wanted to use AW brand batteries in both of them, but Altsmoke was out of stock with AW's for the 14500 for the BB. I ended up getting the Trustfire protected 14500.

Above is what happened to one of those "protected" Trustfires. Blew out both ends and melted the battery's casing.

The BB continued to work for a couple of days with another battery, then the switch died and I had to send it in for Chad to replace it. I don't recall, but I believe the spring didn't collapse, but the battery above did vent thru the fire button as designed.
