Those who don't smoke have no reason to know what taxes are levied on something that doesn't concern them. Unfortunately, even most smokers don't know why their smokes are so high and always just blame the tobacco companies who do make a tidy profit but not near what the Fed. or State governments make on a product that they don't even make. They're just running a "protection racket" the mob could only dream about!

Looks like our government is going after vaping in the same way. They need the "sin" taxes to cover THEIR sins.

Ocelot, consider the "cub" reporters sent out to cover the "vaping scene". Would they even think that older, staid, 3 pc suited individuals partake of this strange habit? Don't they start with assumptions and what they've seen in a "young" hip setting? I mean, it would never cross their mind to visit a "retirement" community! ........On the other hand, it's the younger set who are quicker to take up something new.

Ha! She's a tad older but not by much! Heck, reached the age group where the medical industries and pharmaceuticals start making the big bucks off us. Don't think they want us to help ourselves for pennies on the dollar. Cut into their profits.

At least I've finally reached the age where they STOP yammering at me about a flu shot -- supposedly they're only about 40% effective anyway, and after age 49, that efficacy percentage starts to go down sharply.

My personal feeling is that it's far better to keep your immune system in top condition so you don't catch it, no matter how many around you may have it -- flu virus mutates almost as fast as cold viruses do.

Didn't know that about the flu shot, Andria. No wonder mother got it every year despite getting the flu shot too.

The last flu I had, about 18 yrs ago, makes me understand why people want to not catch it, so much that they'll do the flu shot thing, but the stats on those shots are not really encouraging, especially after age 49. Even this year, after this year's round of flu vaccines were already in distribution, they came along saying, wait, those won't work too well, try these instead -- because of the virus mutating so rapidly.

If people would keep their butts at home when they have it, it wouldn't turn into epidemics -- but noooooooo, they take all that OTC crap that's supposed to make you "feel better" so they can go on to work -- nevermind how many of their co-workers they infect in the process. There's only one place that someone with the flu should go, and that is BED.

Believe there's a shot out there for the shingles. Works half the time. They do show how badly a person can get it on an ad. Good thing I got the shingles before I saw that ad. Actually, came down with it 3 times: first mo. few small blisters on upper arm, next mo. 6 blisters under right booby, two mos. later, 8 blisters on right leg. Itched like a misquito bite, otherwise, nothing......I was on a roll, but lucked out. Some really get it bad.

I've been seriously considering that particular vaccine, since of course I did suffer chickenpox as a child -- and so did my son, maybe one of the very last to actually catch it; he was already scheduled for that vaccine, and just HAD to catch the actual illness instead! My mom had the shingles recently, and from what she said, I think I'd rather avoid it, if possible. I've already suffered terribly with full-body acne, terrible boils, and I know exactly how badly maladies of the skin can hurt.
