I had been thinking about trying E-Cigs but it was always in the back of my mind. I never really thought enough about it to take the plunge. Then I had a dentist appointment about 10 days ago and my dentist recommended E-Cigs because my teeth were so stained from tobacco and coffee.

His recommendation was just enough to push me over the edge. I'll be sure and thank him on my next visit.

Opposed to just sticking with normal cigarettes?

There's no comparison, I see it as two totally different experiences. The vape is so much more satisfying to me than cigarettes.

To answer your question:

I was spending $200 to $250 a month on cigarettes with the threat of automatic "cost of living" raises of taxes expected from the Sate and Fed government.

My daughter and my son in law offered to buy my first starter set up and lovingly told me that even if I didn't like ecigs there was no harm done and they would still love me no matter what. How could I refuse them? I tried them and a week and a half after I started vaping I stopped smoking cigarettes.

For the last 15 months I'm smoke free and ever so thankful for having such wonderful children!

What has made you switch? That is, if you're a smoker trying to switch?

After the code team brought me back and I was in the ICU thinking about the last 36 years of smoking and quitting and failing and smoking, quitting, failing (ok, 10 or more times of this vicious circle) I decided to give vaping a chance - no analogs since I started vaping and I have switched 2 friends over to vaping from smoking (my death scared them into quitting smoking also)

Health aspect - Lots of unknowns, but you can't convince me that analogs aren't more harmful.
Cost aspect - Reached the breakeven point in 30 days. You can easily vape for under the $180 a month I was spending on analogs.
Social aspect - Too many to list, but I'm sure everyone's familiar with them.
No more smelly clothes
No more "Oh crap, the cherry from my cig got knocked off and burned...": the carpet, car seat, my new jeans, etc.

As time passes there's more like variety of vape flavors vs my cowboy brand analogs. But the ones listed above are why I switched (in order).

Because I could smell me from here! :(

Seriously though, recognizing I was addicted to cigarettes and recognizing vaping was a healthier alternative to getting the nicotine I so foolishly let myself get hooked to it was a no brainer. Besides, my Significant Other, (who has never complained about my smoking), suggested in a passingly casual kinda way that it would be nice to have an extra decade or two together that smoking might not let happen. Also, there was the whole health thing, cost savings, smell, taste, the fact I didn't have to go outside to get my fix, etc., etc., etc..

And about that smell thing,, now when I take a shower (yes it's daily and sometimes twice or more!) I actually smell like I took a shower, not like I bathed in smoke... It's nice to smell pretty or at least clean for more than an hour!
