Ugh...you can get the same parallel batt 18650 from IVOGO for 50 bucks, big surprise there...there is no reason to pay this much other than wanting an "authentic" which is a classy way of saying "overpriced crap" to feel "entitled" to bad mouth other vapors out there, go ahead and pay that for this box and watch me rock the IVOGO for a better price with the same quality...just saying

And now people who buy authentic mods do it to look down on people? Seriously invisiblehand? I have several authentic mods...and several clones. Not one single piece was bought with anyone but myself in mind. Blanket statements like that are silly.

Ugh...I didn't mean to offend anybody, especially you and it was not intended as a "blanket statement" just I do beleive that the IVOGO was out first in this case...and in fact I may be wrong but I am always open to criticism...please bash me if you will

There are way too many factors to go over here that justify the high price of authentic mods, several have already been mentioned but others that are very important are design costs, materials used, machining details and costs, and the fact that the designer may have say $100K into the mod before they release it and know they need to make that money back in the first run because it will be cloned and there will be no guarantee for a second run.

Here is an example that may make it easier to justify:

A screw at Home Depot will cost you what, $.10?
A screw to be used for as part of a long range missile, space craft, exploratory telescope cost the same $.10 you think? No fricking way! Tolerances with this kind of hardware are down to millionths of an inch, materials are tested over and over and over again, etc., etc.

Could someone make a spacecraft from parts at Home Depot? I wouldn't be surprised. Would you want to fly in that rocket?

OK, so clones vs. authentic is nowhere near the same scale as what I described but you get the picture. And as for Provari or any other VV mod out there do you really think they actually design and manufacture their own board? Um...........no way. They are however great devices and deserve the money they get because of the quality of the parts leading the quality of the whole.

Completely unfounded, I'd like to claim that a lot of the mod makers have no experience whatsoever with designing for economically viable manufacturing.

I imagine you are correct, very few have experience with design for economic manufacturing which is also part of the problem. My point is that writing the cost of the authentic off as nothing more than greed is completely foolish.

But, as far as design goes, keep in mind that without authentics there would be nothing to clone. There are several devices, both mods and RDAs, that I own both the authentic and clone and can tell you in every single case there is an obvious difference in quality, craftsmanship, heft, feel, performance, appearance, etc. between them.

Not sure if any of the folks in this thread have ever been involved in a Co-Op on this board but check some of them out. I would never in a million year run and manage one myself as you can see how much a complete and total pain it is to manage one. Now expand that to managing the actual manufacturers, machine shops, lawyers, contract negotiations, beta testing, quality control, logistics, distribution and tell me that the makers of authentic gear don't deserve more for what they bring to market.

:confused:This is mech I am referring to Midnight Dimitri Mechanical Box Mod by Vaping Kiko - Kidney Puncher Notice the MSRP of it. Why is it worth as much as a ProVape P3?

Things are worth what you are willing to pay for them. I find the cost of that box mod too high for what it is, so I would not buy one because I don't feel it's worth it. OTOH, someone else might like the feature set and the only alternative to buying this one might be to buy a clone or make one themselves. They might in that scenario decide it is worth it to them and buy one.

I know the Provari is a very good mod, but it does not vape the way I want to vape so it is not worth it to me at any price.

Hope this helps ;)

What makes a P3 more valuable than VaporShark rDNA 40 V2?

edit: don't get me wrong, I love ProVape products....but a silly question deserves a follow up silly question.

ProVape makes their own tubes, components and board; VaporShark subs out to China for all but the DNA board...

simple answer:

Kiko designed and produced the device (and is managing the sales and customer support)
China copied it

it's like:

Van Gogh designed and painted his paintings
and some print companies copied it

something is generally lost in mass production.

you can not really compare a mechanical device to a regular device, both have their pros and cons.

How about some well thought out answers?

What I was trying to sort out is why is simple mech mod sale for the same as regulated mod with the time and effort that goes into developing the board and programing. other then If it is a one off limited run and you have the $ to spend. Then it up to you.

Mods Please lock this thread.

You answered your own question. For you. You beat the internets. Game over. We're all doomed.

As someone from the aerospace industry it is all about application and criticality. Some parts require much higher levels of quality testing than others. Most airlines are satisfied with a certificate from a manufacturer that simply says: This part conforms to this drawing. Considering these are not used in aerospace I guarantee the authentic mod makers are NOT machining their own screws. And yes that home depot screw COULD be the same grade as the one sold to an airline. The only difference is the liability guarantee. Manufacturers are a lot more careful when they could be liable for a multi-million dollar vehicle with hundreds of passengers - but there are still quality recalls all the time and traceability from source to finished product.

Regardless of that the issue comes down to this: Mod makers design something cloners reverse engineer the manufacturing decisions and cut corners where there is not enough cost benefit to making the same decisions. Piece A is made of milled aluminum clone manufacturer has excess stock of magnesium answer burn down the magnesium by substituting it. Authentic has threads milled to fit screw x cloner has an excess (or finds it cheaper) to procure screw y. Design change... etc etc...
These changes along with better manufacturing practices/capacity are why the cloners can charge so much less for something that ends up having roughly the same finished look. Sometimes they make a bad choice in a design tweak that reduces overall quality (low quality clone) Other times there is enough margin (and they make the correct design decisions) that they can lop off a bite of the margin and match or very closely match the quality output.
The end result is you've got people with a small shop who produce a short production run and ship a bunch of x and you've got massive capacity machine shops in china with excess capacity that rather than downsizing would rather occupy their employees with something till the next MPS requirement shows up on the schedule.
