Until I started my research for the best e-cigarette to buy in order to quit smoking I was almost totally unaware of the controversy surrounding it.

Since then I did quite a bit of reading and I am aware there are some powerful forces that either because of bigotry, self interest or plain ignorance are trying to ban and drive the e-cigarette movement underground.

Even with my limited experience but having been able to quit pretty much the same moment I took my first e-cig's puff, I believe that any ban or even any unreasonable regulation would be a crime against humanity.

Here is a device that has the potential of at least preventing millions of premature deaths and the very people fighting against the cause of those deaths choose to ignore its benefits and actively work at banning it. That to me is almost incomprehensible .

So, is there an organization that is devoted to publicizing the benefits of e-cigarettes and that can operate above suspicion of being a puppet for the e-cig industry or other forces that can be perceived as just a new incarnation of BT?

They already have, just yesterday I posted in an unrelated forum to tell people that I had quit smoking and anyone wanting to do the same could PM me and I'd be glad to help.
I got responses along the lines of:

"You are a shill for the e-cigarette companies" (right) to "But you are still addicted to nicotine" (to which I responded I don;t care and that on the wall it says "No Smoking" not "no nicotine addicts".

The thing is that I want to arm myself with the best research available and possibly the most pure. If I read a research paper financed by the e-cigarette manufacturers, joe sixpac will think they are like BT.

The only way that we can be heard and listened to, is if our research proves that vaping is less harmful by several orders of magnitude and if we can make the other side look and sound like they are the loonies.

Unfortunately, vaping has the potential to attract the same unsavory characters that vitamins, supplements and other quasi-science products have attracted. We have to do our best to be twice as diligent, twice as reasonable as our opponents and as far from quackery as possible.

The only way to do that is through science and by being entirely dissociated from any questionable entities. Including the e-cigarette manufacturers, distributors and retailers. That is very inconvenient because money will always be an issue, but we can thank BT for tainting that source of funds for us with their lies and deception.

It's too easy for the non initiated to dismiss any research on the subject with "that's what the cigarette companies said too".

Thank you again. I plan to collect as much good info as possible to keep handy in case of need. I also would like to contribute so I am reading the CASAA forum to learn more and see what my role may be.

As far as I am concerned, I am not personally worried about e-cigs becoming illegal. I am convinced the cat is out of the bag and I will be able to keep on vaping for years to come regardless of the FDA or any law. I don;t think food flavorings will be illegal anytime soon nor will the other supplies aside from nicotine (which I plan to dial down progressively).

What worries me is that a ban will prevent most smokers from switching to vaping in the future and lead to them suffering from all the negative heath effect we all know so well.

My dad dies of smoking related lung and bone cancer. I was unable to quit even after his passing. But I found vaping and my outlook is much brighter.

Vaping, had it been available when there was still a chance for my Dad, could have prevented his cancer. It's too late for my dad, but it's not too late for many people's dads. I know the pain. I know what it was like to see my once strong father cry like a baby because of the pain (also due to the doctors refusing to give him morphine because "it is an addicting substance", With terminal cancer!) and I don't wish on anyone to see their dad in the same conditions.

So if I can help even just one current smoker, even just one son;s or daughter's father, I will be happy. But I will be even happier if I can help stop a law that will prevent everybody's father from switching to a life saving alternative.

In time to come you may find more info in my thread here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...cal-chapters-electronic-cigarette-groups.html

In this thread I propose people start local chapters (state and city) of E-cig groups or associations to help educate the people and agencies in their areas about the benefits of e-cigarettes.

I have started a website to be online soon for the New Orleans Electronic Cigarette Association - since there was no one active in my area doing such work. Many growing chapters in local areas will help nationalism of these products and our intentions. The more people band together locally the faster the agencies and companies will come to accept that we are not going away and they need to accept E-cigarettes.
