Here is an approximation I use if I feel like it, but usually I just pre-dilute my VG at 80/20 in a 30ml dropper bottle before mixing my juices.

What you want is just a preferred end thickness. If you would dilute a 100% VG solution to 20% water + 80% VG, you can cut that to about 10% water + 90% VG in a 50/50 solution with PG. So you just scale it by multiplying %VG in total solution times the % water you use to dilute pure VG. This assumes that PG/flavor/etc contributes a bit to thinning the VG.

It doesn't really matter that much, as long as your liquid flows and doesn't ooze, and it isn't so watery it drowns your atty constantly.

Ok, I have 50mg unflavored pg. Just bought a variety of flavors from PA and a big bottle of usp vg. I have the correct mixing ratios for everything except for the amount of thinner that I should use. I want roughly a 50/50 pg/vg ratio.
then you would add 50% 50mg nic juice to 50% VG to give you a 50/50 mix at 25mg.

Now you still did not answer my question on what U are trying to achieve? Throat hit or VG dilution.

Some want more throat hit, some don't. When dealing with % mg, the more mg the greater the throat hit, therefore the less PGA needed eg alcohol. I don't use either PGA or water in my mixes. If you want an ending 60/40 VG base, then the number you plug into the calculator for VG is 40. The remaining %s will come out of the PG required to add to the mix.

to make 30 mls 24mg 60/40

14.4mls 50mg PG base nic juice 48%
0.6mls PGA or vodka 2%
12mls VG 40%
3 mls Flavour 10%

by increasing the PGA to 5% your final streght is also decreased

to make 30 mls at 5% alcohol = 22.5mg 60/40 @5% PGA
13.5mls @50mg 45%
12mls VG 40%
2mls PGA or vodka 5%
3mls Flavour 10%

PG provides a base for greater flavour, whilst VG provides a base for greater vapour.

PG provides throat hit, VG diminishes throat hit and flavour.

Alcohol will also provide a greater throat hit at the cost of vapour and flavour.

Water allows dillution of VG without adding alcohol, for those who do not like a strong throat hit, it also assists in vapour production

You see your Q wasn't simple after all :D

Now this is what I do:

I have bases at varying levels of nicotine and PG/VG ratios. That were created out of 50mg PG base.

30mg 80/20
25mg 80/20
25mg 75/25
25mg 70/30
25mg 65/35
18mg 80/20
18mg 75/25

... depending what I am looking for or when I plan on vaping that particular liquid, I use the appropriate one and flavour from there as nicotine content is insignificant (1-2mg) as i am only diluting 5-10% flavour. This allows me to test and create 3ml samples vice wasting 6mls or better. Once I have the recipe down path, I create 15-30mls of it.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just wondering, what is PGA?
if you mouse over PGA you will see that it is pure grain alcohol ... and for future reference if you see any thing with a grey line under it and don't know what it is... mouse over and it will explain

examples to test

Thanks for the info. As I mentioned, I'm new to mixing and just want to make sure I understand the basics. I have Dan's "E-juice calculator" and its just a matter of trial and error until I get the right mix that suits me.

Thanks again!

that's ultimately the right answer. I use anywhere from 10-20% dist water for my VG DIYs. Some flavors are thinner than others and don't need much water if I'm making the juice with 10% flavor, like Lorann Eng Toffee is pretty thin.

Start with 10% flavor, 10% water and then change as needed.

It also makes a little difference if you are using a higher voltage mod, or even a higher capacity 3.7V batt mod. I find my atty likes a bit thicker juices with my Bartleby, which is using a 14500, and giving 3.7V on the coil (reg 510 batt gives about 3.1V on the coil). 20% water with the Bart is a bit too thin. Its fine with reg batts, which don't want too thick.
