Every Tool album is a masterpiece.
Elton John created a lot of pretty songs and some great albums.
IFAIC Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was his masterpiece.
I only have GYBR & MATW in my CD collection but I also loved Caribou once upon a time.
There are a Lot of Good (early) Elton John Albums.
Hard to say what would be My Favorite? But Honky Château really stands out.
Agree with both. Absolutely love Tool, and they're not in the same realm as EJ. But I used them as an extreme example of how striking it is that the business changed...a lot. Black Sabbath, Led Zep, others back in the day cranked out 3 or 4 albums in the first couple of years if their debut was successful. Record companies used to really strike while the iron was hot, I guess.
And yeah, YBR was probably his best overall. Honky Chateau was the first of his I bought (I was 12)- but I really only loved Rocket Man & Mona Lisas on that one.
Quick trivia: I remember hearing on the radio in the '70's that the only Beatles cover more successful than the original was EJ's Lucy in the Sky.
But back to "What Song are You Listening To?" - this came up in my shuffled playlist today, so I'm going back to this- among the first few albums I bought. I'm thinking it was among my first 13 cassettes with Columbia's deal back then:
