I saw Michael Brecker at the Hollywood Bowl when he broke his reed in the middle of a Wicked solo.

He just stood there with this Comical Look on his face while the Band Played on. He finally turned to his Bassman who just gave him a shrug and brought it around again. They finally got another Alto into his hands but by then the crowd was going crazy and he was Laughing so hard he couldn't find where to come back in.

A Really Funny moment in a Great Show at the Bowl.

BTW - If someone has Never heard this, and is into Steely Dan, it is Highly Recommended.

Wow, just finished...that was awesome. Didn't know the documentary existed. I always thought that might be my "one album for the rest of your life" album. Never get tired of it, and hear something new every time I play it. And the title song is in a league of its own.

Yeah... It's a Pretty Cool Doc.

I like the way Rick Marotta talks about the recording sessions Weren't musical chairs with Musicians coming in and out. That Whole Bands would come in for one Track. And a Completely Other Group would come in to do Others. Or maybe even the Same Track.

LOL

BTW - The Cream - Disraeli Gears episode is great also.

Every Tool album is a masterpiece.
Elton John created a lot of pretty songs and some great albums.
IFAIC Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was his masterpiece.
I only have GYBR & MATW in my CD collection but I also loved Caribou once upon a time.

There are a Lot of Good (early) Elton John Albums.

Hard to say what would be My Favorite? But Honky Château really stands out.

Agree with both. Absolutely love Tool, and they're not in the same realm as EJ. But I used them as an extreme example of how striking it is that the business changed...a lot. Black Sabbath, Led Zep, others back in the day cranked out 3 or 4 albums in the first couple of years if their debut was successful. Record companies used to really strike while the iron was hot, I guess.

And yeah, YBR was probably his best overall. Honky Chateau was the first of his I bought (I was 12)- but I really only loved Rocket Man & Mona Lisas on that one.

Quick trivia: I remember hearing on the radio in the '70's that the only Beatles cover more successful than the original was EJ's Lucy in the Sky.

But back to "What Song are You Listening To?" - this came up in my shuffled playlist today, so I'm going back to this- among the first few albums I bought. I'm thinking it was among my first 13 cassettes with Columbia's deal back then:
