The filler that came in my cartridges (I use a 901) keeps getting stuck to my atty! GRRRRR I switched it out to a different one and it still did it. So then I pushed it down further, no good. What the heck is the deal? I have made sure not to turn the cart when it's on the atty... does it just go bad after a bit or what!? :( I looked for fluval or blue foam rite-size U, and the pet store here doesn't carry either of them! grrrrrr Neither does wal-mart! Frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!

The filler that comes in carts does indeed lose it's oomph after a while and a few washes. What's happening is the it's too loose and a bit scragally so it gets pulled down on the atty.
When I used a 901 I bought some fish fluval (the white stuff not the black) I cut it into strips and then cut it to fit my cart. It did just fine , the box lasts forever!

Toni_Dov, PM me your addy and I'll send you a cart filled with the right amount. I don't have much left because I've sent it all out and need to get to Petsmart for more, but I can send you a strip of it to try.

Here's my method:

So, should I give it up? hehe

No more bad taste from liquid not properly wicking.

"Fluval Water Polishing Pad" Rinse well before using and allow to thoroughly dry.

It comes in pads and I peal off layers then cut those into strips approximately ¼” x the length of the pad. Then cut those strips into pieces approximately the depth of your cart (about ¾” because you can cut off any excess.) The layer you end up using will be thin and airy when pulled apart like an accordion. You want to use the least amount possible and it can be quite thin before it starts to leak. Since the Fluval grips the sides of the cart as long as you keep it fluffed when filling you can use a very small piece.

Insert into cart without compressing. If you need to tear off more to keep it light, take it from the layered sides. Trim off any excess that comes out the top of the cart so it’s flush with the rim. Add juice and when it puddles lift the Fluval gently about 1/4" with a toothpick or tweezers and let the juice flow to the bottom then you can add a few more drops.

You can use a tiny piece if you keep it fluffed because it sticks to the sides of the cart and doesn't mat down like polyfil... and it can be very sparse before it starts to leak.

I don't have to top off until it needs between 12-18 drops (510s & 901s), depending on the viscosity of the juice. When I top off I fluff the top with a toothpick, fill, then lift ¼” to let the juice settle, push it back in and add a few more drops.

With a PetPerks discount card from Petsmart it was under $4 for a box of 3 pads - enough to fill a few hundred carts.

Not to hi-jack a thread but, Someone sent me some blue foam last week (Think it was Leannebug)?? Anyway, It is like night and day from poly fill...It wicks perfect and I can now enjoy vaping instead of screwing with strands of poly getting in the coil and getting stuck in atty...I can vape a whole cart dry and the atty stays wet the entire time. I use it in conjunction with a straw to press it against the atty...It is amazing!!!! I was about to give up on vaping. Thanks Leanne:D

It depends on how much you vape and how small of a piece you can use without it leaking. I've been able to get it pretty small (full length of cart) if I pull it apart like an accordion and gently put it in the cart. Once I went too small and it leaked. I'm able to top off a 510 cart at 18 drops. That's sure a lot better than the 5-6 I was having to do with other fillers.

Mesa, AZ...off the analogs for years!
I know Good Dog likes the Fluval and I agree it's an improvement over the polyfill stuff. I switched to the Shredded Pyramid Tea Bag (also known as PTB) and I prefer that. But I remember Good Dog saying she preferred the Fluval over it so YMMV. I think it lasts at least twice as long as the polyfill and the taste is cleaner.
