I am sorry for all the questions, however, this is a big step for me and my lungs. If I decide to buy a e-cig which will happen tonight 100% I am still unclear on what items I need to rebuy all the time.

So you have the e-cig, cartridges, battery, atomizers, e-liquid correct? So which of these do you have to re-buy at a certain point? I can refill the cartridges for a while but I THINK (DONT KNOW FOR SURE) but have to replace them at one point.

Do you need to replace the atomizer frequently?

I would start with what you mentioned and work from there. I purchased a ton of extras on my first purchase and almost half I never used and or was not for the product I was buying. Make sure you are happy with your product first then you can purchase additional goodies. At some point you will need to re-purchase everything you mentioned. Depending on what device you are purchasing we can provide some additional suggestions and how much juice are looking to purchase... Good Luck and Welcome to the Family

Welcome aboard. I myself am a new user, so I will do my best to answer you.

You will eventually have to re-buy everything, however its not as bad as that sounds. so let's start with the most often to replace and work our way down.

1st is your E-Juice. A 30ml bottle will last approx. 2-3 weeks depending on your use.

Cartridges are a thing Im not sure of, as I started with the direct drip method. However, my research has led my to find that most last between 1-2 weeks if they are constantly refilled.

Ive had my E-cig for going on 3 weeks, and have not had to change my atomizer yet. Ive heard they can last as long as 4+ months for a good one or as little as 2 hrs for a dud.

Finally the battery. The ones that come with the E-cig are said to last "200" cycles.. This is per manufactures claim on a small 150mAh battery( joye 510). Once again, this is dependent on use. I found the first 2 days I had mine, I was charging them batteries about every 2 hrs. I would recommend looking into a better battery and a decent battery mod. I switched to an 18650 flashlight mod, so far I'm averaging about 2 full days on 1 charge.

Hope this helps you a bit, as I said I'm still a greenhorn to this e-cig thing.

Cartridge shells only need to be replaced if they crack. Cartridge filling periodically needs to be replaced, but there are plenty of replacement materials that are cheaper and work better than the stock polyfill (search for "blue foam", "fluval", and "pyramid teabags" or "PTB"). With proper care and maintenance, atomizers can last months or years. If you get less than a month out of an atomizer that wasn't dead on arrival, you're probably doing something wrong. Batteries will eventually die and need to be replaced, but assuming the batteries weren't duds you should get 9-12 months out of them easily (less with heavy usage). The only thing that's consumed and thus needs to be replaced regularly is the ejuice.

Rather than thinking about replacement costs at this point, think about what you need to vape successfully:
  • Multiple batteries. This is especially important if you're using smaller cigarette-styled batteries that are only rated at 180-280mAh (standard 510 or KR808D-1 batteries, for example). Let's say 2 batteries is the bare minimum, and 3 would be even better.
  • Multiple ways to charge. Having three batteries won't really help you in a power outage without some way to recharge them. It's also a good idea to have more than one USB charger, just in case it breaks. Let's say two USB chargers, a mains-to-USB wall adapter, and a cigarette lighter-to-USB car adapter at minimum.
  • Multiple atomizers. You'll want to be able to change flavors quickly, and the easiest way to do that is to use a different atomizer. Also, you don't want to be caught out in case your atomizer dies (despite what I said above, it can and will happen). Two atomizers should be the bare minimum here, and ideally you'd have three or four ready to go. Add in a drip tip or two, since even if you don't plan to drip it's a useful way to try out new flavors without having to fill a cart.
  • Multiple cartridges. I wouldn't feel comfortable with less than a 10 pack of empty carts.

A good starter kit should get you most of the way to where you need to be. I'd throw in another atomizer, some blank carts and juice (most starter kits will give you prefilled carts), and a second charger and you should be good to go.

Everything will need to be replaced eventually. Unless you are getting a nice mod then all the parts are basically disposable. Here are some basic lifespans:

• batteries: about 300 charges (10 months for a big batt, 4 months for a little batt -- depending on usage of course)
• atomizers: 1-3 months (some last up to a year, it's pretty random)
• cartridges: the plastic body lasts indefinitely, but the fluffy stuffing needs replacing soonish (use the blue foam)
• cartomizers: can be refilled several times, with refilling they last about a week
• drip tips: last indefinitely
• chargers: can fail indiscriminately, always a good idea to have two just in case

+1 this pretty much covers it, the larger the battery the less you have to replace it....on the flip side the smaller the battery the cheaper they "normally" are. A joye 510 is 7 bucks a 1000mah riva is at least 20. There are exceptions, mostly when new stuff comes out, like the bloog maxx fusion which is 20 bucks but will still probably last 4 months or so.

I would dedicate at least 25-30 bucks of your monthly budget to replacement parts (attys, cartomizers, batteries) and the rest will depend on how much juice you use and how much you like to pay for your juice. You could just vape dekang juice and get 100ml for 20 bucks making your monthly budget less than 60 dollars. The most expensive part is starting out...AND getting into the craze of wanting one of every flavor and device on the market.

Sit down and figure out your smoking costs for a month and it will probably be much much more than that, here in florida a pack a day habit is about 180 bucks a month using middle range smokes.

Dont forget, once you start modding, you will never stop. Thats what I'm finding to be the most expensive part. Always find myself walking thru the store thinking " Hmm, how can I make this work"

I've been doing this about 2 1/2 months. The only thing I've had to re-buy have been cartomizers and juice. I have had a few things fail but they were under warranty. After that ends, it'd only be batteries since I use cartos.

That's not to say that's all I've purchased. I've bought a ton of stuff! But for my basic set-up, cartos and juice.
I've tried different cartos, tanks, bigger batteries, attys, syringes and misc. stuff.

Get a kit from a reputable vendor, take care of your batteries, atty, etc. Get the juice that works for you and your golden.

Then in usual order of need, from most often to least

cartomizers - you may get 4-14 days use out of a cartomizer if you keep it damp

atomizers - you should always have at least 1 spare, preferably 2 - hopefully you will get 3+ months out of each or more but sometimes one suddenly fails, especially if you misuse them or don't pay attention to how hot they are getting or if you buy mystery brand atomizers. Low resistance atomizers which can be used on fat-battery models may have shorter lifespans and more sudden deaths.

batteries - Chinese claim up to 300 recharges life for a battery. A reliable vendor says it is more like 150 recharges. And if you buy auto batteries, you may be more likely to kill one with a juice leak on the end of the battery. You can also damage batteries by putting parts on them that they are not meant to use, or charging them on unstable or insufficient power supplies (I recommend a 3-port 2 amp usb to ac and you can charge 4 batteries at once on it with battery charging USB cables)

PCC - always make sure the end of your batteries are dry and clean before charging in a PCC. And since a PCC is recharged over and over, its battery may have a 150 recharges life - I have not seen any figures on that

charger - always make sure the end of your batteries are dry and clean before screwing on a charger

cartridges - I expect my first 5 cartridges to last longer than anything. I don't use cartridges much any more bit I used them for the whole first 2 months. I am still using my first cart. I replaced the white stuffing with blue foam and have cut a new blue foam plug a couple of times. However, if you are going to vape prefilled carts then discard, then move these to the top of the list.

I saw that everyone pretty much answered everything. try checking out the classifieds section once you know what you like and dont like. You can also find lots of cheap mods ( different kinds of ecig's ). It is also a good place to trade juice that you dont like. However i will tell you that juice may change with different kinds of mods. What you dont like at 3.7 volts you may love at 4.2 ect...

I have been smoke free for 9 days and i have an ego-t which i didnt like so much at the beginning but have since found drip tips and low res atty's and it has changed my perspective. I also ordered my first mod the "provari" =) good luck
