I want to start smoking e-cigs. I've read quite a bit but I'm still not sure what kit to buy. I'd like to buy something for around 80$ or less. I'm not sure if I should buy anything extra other than a kit to start.

If someone could recommend a good kit with an e-cig that looks more like an analog then I would be grateful. What liquids should I get as well?

Also I'm interested in any discounts that anyone knows of.

Thanks for any help.

I would recommend the eGo or Riva 510. It's the size of a slim cigar but has a much better battery than the analog sized PV's that have batteries that only last about an hour or two at best. I also strongly recommend manual (small button) batteries not auto batteries that are much more frustrating to use. I would recommend starting with 24mg nicotine strength e-liquid and then adjusting it up or down depending on your personal need.

Liberty Flights has a 20% off sale (click on button in left upper corner). You can get an eGo or Riva 510 kit for $30 -$35. I would get an extra atomizer and some blank carts, also. Their "Home Counties" eliquid is a smooth tobacco flavor. Here is the web address:

My 808 batteries last me all day and ima chain vapor. Two batteries suffice for the day. Manuals batteries are a must. Autos will malfunction with juice leaking into them. I had a 510 kit..Battery wasnt as good as my 808's codes for V4L are
18% off everything: SuperSunday18
23% off everything; SuperSunday23 on orders 60-85$
28% off everything: SuperSunday28 on orders 85 and up

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your decision to try a pv.

You stated you've done some reading and research. Please let us know if you need or want further explanation on some of the terminology.

Atomizers and/or Cartomizers: You should plan on getting extras. Most kits only come with two. A new user can go through a couple in no time at all. Your PV will not work without one or the other. They do not spoil and sooner or later, you will need them. Best to have a few extras on hand. If you use atomizers, you should consider a few Cartridge and/or a drip tip

Juice: Most of us purchase juice and refill our cartridges or cartomizers. Or we drip or use the new eGo T-Tank system. Juice is a good thing to have on hand. Most juice suppliers have an expiration date of 1 or 2 years. So it probably will not go to waste at your house.

I recommend you grab a tobacco juice because that is what you are used to with your cigarettes. They also make menthol juices. I also recommend you get your tobacco juice in two different nicotine levels. One level would be 24mg, the other would be 18mg (or something like that). If you find the 24mg too strong, you have the 18mg to fall back on. Or you have the option of mixing the two together and coming up with a strength somewhere in the middle.

I recommend you pick up a bottle or two of flavors that interest you. Coffee? Vanilla? Orange? Carmel Apple? Strawberry? Banana Nut Bread? French Toast? Grab a couple to test out and see what suits you. You might find one of these help you as your taste buds begin to heal and your tastes change.

Expect your taste buds to change. Favorite things now, may not be to your liking in a couple weeks.

Select small bottles or sample sizes of juice. You don't want a Huge Bottle of juice that you really don't like sitting around.

Do Not throw away juices that you don't like. Tomorrow they may be perfect for you. They will also serve you in a juice emergency. :p

Hope this helps a little. Glad you found ECF forum. Please ask questions. The members here are wonderful and will help you in any way they can.

Happy Vaping,
Paula

Anything exactly the same size and diameter as a Marlboro king is not a good ecig. Just not enough room for a decent battery, and tiny carts that hardly hold any juice.

Closest decent one to an analog would be 510 - the black looks slimmest but has a blue led. I think you can get white ones with a red led. I don't care for the carts on 510 but I am trying some cartomizers (blank Boge cartos). Downside - short battery life. Note as short as a super-mini but about 1.5-3 hours depending on how you vape (180mah battery). You could get the longer mega batteries and use cartomizers on it and that combination would probably be around 125mm long?? I recommend Joye brand because there are some substandard clone parts around.

KR808D-1 (also sold in colors at Vapor4Life.com) is a bit fatter but longer battery life with its standard batteries. A dedicated 2-piece.

If you want a tasty airier hit you could consider DSE901.

If you need super longer battery life (6-8 hours) or are a heavy smoker of full strength cigs, then you would probably need a less-cigarette-looking fat-battery version of one of the same models (Ego or Riva 510, or CigEasy's Elegant Easy for KR8 etc)

I recommend manual batteries even if you think you want autos. Manuals are less work, more consistent hits, less prone to getting killed if juice drips through to the battery, and won't turn on accidentally in wind etc.

I got an eGo-T after starting with kr8 cartos (passthroughs and PigCig). Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not a big fan of the tank. The flavors are much more muted, and at least to me there's a bit of a plastic undertone to the taste. I blew out both atties quite well, primed, made sure the tank was fully pierced, made sure the tanks weren't being melted, bought juices with double flavor, and even tried poking the wick in a little bit (but not too much for fear of ruining an atty -- maybe I need to push it in further?). Still I get the occasional dry hit and always that plastic aftertaste. The vapor production is good, and if I've not been using one of my kr8 PTs the flavor from the tank is okay, but overall it was a little disappointing.

Maybe a LR atty would be better (supposedly 2.0ohm atties will be available soon), or maybe if I could fit it on a mod with more voltage, but as it is right now the tank wasn't enough to replace my kr8 PTs. I did give my PigCig to the girlfriend, but I might break down and buy me a couple more of those instead.

Edit: I forgot to point out that the PigCig wasn't perfect, either. Despite the claims and being 808-threaded, it didn't work with my V4L cartos (confirmed with LeCig that I wasn't doing anything wrong). They're considering an adapter, but it was unclear if they were planning an adapter to make "regular" kr8 cartos work on the PigCig or to make their Mega XL cartos work on V4L batteries. Still, it was easy enough to carry around some PigCig-compatible cartos when I'm out and keep some V4L cartos at home/work for the PTs.

If you want one that looks close to an analog I recommend a bloog maxx fusion. It's more expensive than a regular KR808 but it performs much better. It is the closest thing I have tried to an analog since I started. If you decide to go with a KR/510/mini battery pv, I highly recommend getting a PCC to keep your batteries charged up. You may find that as you research, the analog look doesn't matter as much as performance. If that turns out to be the case, then I recommend the ego-t. Refilling the tank cartridges is much easier than refilling cartomizers, though refilling cartomizers isn't all that difficult. The batteries last a long time (about 6 hours) and they perform great. They're right within your price range too, $79 at cignot, though I've heard that other places have them for less. Have fun!

Thanks everyone. I decided to purchase an Ego as the longer battery life seemed to better for me than the better looking smaller ecigs. I also got a few flavors of liquid, but I was wondering what else I should be getting.

Thanks again, this is all new to me and actually turning out to be more complicated than I thought.

Good decision. Glad you were not put off by the use of the "inaccurate description of fat body" for the eGo. It's the size of a small cigar but out performs the small KR batteries 5 fold.

Good Luck

kingala, I'm new as well but I would highly recommend that you try out the eGo T tank system. Since you will already have the batteries for the eGo, the additional cost is minimal. I paid around 15 for the atomizer and like 1 dollar per tank but someone else here might be able to point you to a better price. I know that a lot of people don't like this system but as someone new to e-cigs I find it better than the standard cartridge system that will come with the basic eGo kit.

Has anyone tried the Tank system yet..Im interested in it.. Seems to be a juice hogg though..

It's a juice hog, but not any more than with dripping, you just notice it more because you can see the juice disappearing through the translucent tank cart. I think the eGo users tend to like them because there's no more cart to mess around with and you don't have to carry around: tweezers, paper towel, bottles of juice, etc..... so I think another reason that it seems like it uses more juice is because we can finally get down to the business of vaping. If the other methods were as efficient as this, they'd all use this much juice.

I still like the flavor of cartomizers best of all (having tried tank, carts, dripping, clearomizers and cartomizers) but I tend to burn the cartomizers, so I had to give them up.

Some people get dry vapes with the tank system, but I've found something that fixes it (for me): I just blow into and suck on the eGo tank without pressing the button. Somehow that resets the juice flow. The flavor is good, IMO, once the atomizer breaks in the flavor gets better and better; very clean, slightly muted, but the closest to what I think the juice is supposed to taste like yet.

How long do the atty's normally last for the Tank?

Do you mean 'how long will one tank of juice last'? If so, it depends on how much you vape, of course, but it seems like people are going through about the same amount or just a smidge more juice as normal; so 2-5 tanks per day.

If you mean 'how long does the atomizer last'? Then I'm sure it's about the same as for any 510 atomizer, mine (my regular 510's) have lasted for 10 months so far (actually I have one that's on it's last legs, but the other 4 are still good). I suppose that's up to fate -- just like with regular atty's, LOL!
