Power outages are a concern down here due to hurricanes and floods. I've been without for 5 weeks. After 2 weeks I ran out of LP for the generator.

A small solar panel can charge your phone or e-cig. But more importantly the e-cig.

Screw the phone...gimme my nicotine! Now!

This is what I did. I picked up a Solar USB charger and keep a couple ego batteries around that can charge from it. :)

Ours has a surge protector. Been using it for years to charge my batteries.

A surge protector is better than nothing, but, it's just a matter of time before something is going to create a low spike and the surge protector will not protect in a low sine spike. Also the joule rating of the surge protector comes into play, just having something that says it's a surge protector isn't the save all, the higher the rating the more protection.
I'm an electrician with EPRI certification for Instrumentation and Control systems, I've seen many a circuit board ruined from spikes and dirty power.
Just trying to save someone the headache of not having a battery available and then the money to replace one.

"What do you do if you lose electrical power?"

Answer: Run around in the dark hitting my shins on things and swearing while yelling at the kids "There IS no boogeyman!" and enduring the husband's mutters of "This is why I TOLD you to keep the flashlights in one drawer and always in the same place" garbage into the dark...

Oh, what do I do about my vape? I am actually (on a more serious note) glad for this thread as I had not considered the possibility as relates to ecigs...so thanks for the info, everyone!

I still need to get a car adapter for my charger, just because, but living in tornado alley myself, I have a 10kw welder/generator that I fire up when the power goes out!
If you go to the Candle Power forums market place, you can do a search for "Cotton Picker", he makes solar chargers just for Li-Ion batteries. It's a fold out panel with magnets on the charge wires just for this application. Really a neat set up, but you have to have sunlight, and a lot of time for them to work!

Have spare batteries charged.

If you're using an eGo, eVic, Innokin or other PV that charges off USB, you can use your notebook computer or better yet, make sure you have a USB adapter for your car cigarette lighter outlet.

If you're using rechargeable batteries, have a charger that can operate off 12VDC from your vehicle, boat, or RV.

The lack of power concern is one of the reasons I moved into mods. I routinely order a few extra batteries and have now managed to accumulate over 20 batteries. All of which stay charged, just in case. With winter coming soon, not to mention the risk of a power grid failure, I make sure I have enough charged batteries on hand to keep me vaping for a few weeks. This is also an advantage of having a telescopic mod in your collection. Having several options/ backup plans never hurts.
I wish someone would come up with a mod that can be recharged via a windup, like they have for flashlights and radios.

Now that I have lost my mind over not having juice (liquid or what ever one wants to call it) I now worry what would happen if I lose electrical power during the winter..which here in Detroit is not unusual. Since we are in bankruptcy court, they could use winter for an excuse for blackouts and brownouts?

Well I found this: The Power Box Pedal Power Generator by K-TOR

And wonder if anyone has had any experience with such devices?

If you are going to spend almost 200 bucks just get a cheap gasoline generator for a little more and you will have instant power anytime you want. :)

Anyone know how our IMR and hybrid batteries are fit for long term storage at full charge? For regular li-ions, it's not a recommended practice. They deteriorate and lose maximum capacity.

If being without power for a few days was a concern, I think I would look for one of those larger battery boxes with an USB plug. At least 10.000 mah. Ideally twice that. Usually sold as portable charging thingies for phones and tablets. Or a 12v outlet if you use mod batteries and a charger with 12v input.
