Don't skimp.
Avoid the cheap hardware store crap.
Check your local tobacco/pipe shop.
Higher end butane like "Vector" brand will make your torch last longer.
Cheap butane contains higher amounts of Mercaptan. Mercaptans are added to butane so that you can smell leaks.
It's nasty stuff and will clog the tips of torches and expensive lighters.

A cheap alternative is "Power" brand 5x refined butane. It's cheaper than Vector and is very clean burning.

Just starting to build my own coils and I purchased online a Jet Torch. I was wondering if any old butane will suffice or is there something in particular I should be buying? Any help would be appreciated.

Think of Butane just like you do Gasoline for your Car. If you put el-Cheap-O brand gas in your car, your car probably won't run very good.

Buying better Quality Butane helps your lighter light Every Time. And extends the Life of your Lighter. I use so Little Butane a Month, I have No Problem buying Vector Brand. Which is Kinda Overpriced in my mind.

But what is a couple of Bucks what a Can will last me more than a Year?

There was no mention of the type but I watched a video tutorial on coiling and he recommended triple refined otherwise you will clog up your torch

As mentioned above, Vector is probably the best choice for a butane torch. Very high quality butane.

That said, I have a torch which I use for a variety of purposes (none of which have anything to do with coil building, oddly), and I've almost exclusively used cheap-o butane in it. Its been going strong for 2 years.

Chipotle.
BernzOmatic butane runs around $4 for the big can at Home Depot and works just fine. Been using it in my mini-torch for 7 or 8 years now and it still works like the day I bought it.
Ditto on this, both Home Depot and Lowes carry it for $4.99 per 6oz and I've not had a problem in ~5 years using it.

Edit: Got this tip from a friend a few years back, I've seen some mention of Vector butane in here, which is good stuff...but don't bother spending the $65-$90 some places will charge for a Vector Nitro butane torch, you can get the exact same torch for $30 from Bed Bath & Beyond - http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/bonjour-reg-professional-cooking-torch/1013057451 it contains the same spark igniter as most of those longer candle lighters have and can be disassembled enough to clean it should it ever clog and service the igniter if needed. I've had one for two years and use it almost every day, still going strong.
