My first mech was a SS Nemesis clone, I bought it because it was the cheapest mod I found around me at any B&M and I didn't know if I would like it. If you tried a mech before, and know how to rebuild and know about the safety issues involved if done wrong, and are ready to go mech and have the cash for and already know a mech is for you, I would recommend an authentic, especially since you can get a good one now between $100-130 USD made in the USA, but not sure how that works if you're in Canada?

For a beginner, you might want to look in to a clone, since you will also need to invest in a good ohm reader, and a good battery smart charger, along with IMR batteries preferably Sony VTC4s or VTC5s for safety and trusted specs. Just make sure they are authentic Sony's.

First mech was a Caravella Clone. It's still one of my best mech mods I have. Only recently it's been replaced by a King V2 style mod only because you can set it down without having to lock it. I also have an origin and a Nemesis (clones). Origin is 21mm, so I dedicate it to the Aqua atomizer in hybrid mode. Button needs a hard press to use, and it doesn't lock easy. The Nemesis's threading is too narrow, so it takes a while to lock it, and since the locking ring is chromed and flush with the atty, it takes too long to lock. Adjusting it is a pain, since it takes a lot of unscrewing to get it.. I hate that mod. I even bought a kick and magnet upgrades for it and it's still collecting dust.

I still recommend the Caravella as a first mech mod. It's simplicity, looks, and ease of use make it my top recommendation. My King is a bit too heavy to recommend, but I still like it personally.

My first Mech was one a just bought a few weeks ago - the Akuma black copper clone by Acerig. It is very nice and works great. Has a magnetic switch (also comes with a spring if you like), and can be used with the three main sizes of batteries. I paid $44 for this beautiful, solid copper and brass mod and love it!

Mine was a Caravella clone, that I coupled with a Patriot clone. Had no idea if I wanted to continue on with wrapping my own coils, and dripping, and did not want to get too invested in it. Have since stepped way up from there, and love my current rigs.

Sold my clones to a friend for about half what I paid, and he found he did not like wrapping coils and dripping, so it was a cheap lesson for him. Not so cheap for me to find I wanted to go much further into things :)

My first was a Sigelei 24. I thought it was just so cool looking and nicely machined I had to have it. That was a year ago. I foolishly put my Protank on it and burnt through coils at a ridiculous rate, rebuilding them en mass until I got sick of that, and I got a genesis RBA. Been happy since. Using an Hcigar Nemesis now. Want a Carvela.

I purchased both an AltSmoke Silver Bullet (18650 battery) and BB (14500 battery) over two years ago.

Light weight, highly crafted aircraft-aluminum bodies with silky-smooth threading, made in Ohio so if they need repaired I can merely return them to AltSmoke to get them fixed. The Silver Bullet has an extension sleeve available to use a Kick in it and continue to use the 18650 battery.

I prefer a mod with the more natural side-firing switch because it is more comfortable and I believe it is safer than a bottom-fire switch.
