"Lots of vapor" isn't really compatible with a Kayfun, unfortunately. I'd probably use 28ga, as I've heard Kayfuns like to be run around 1.2-1.5ohm coils (which is consistent with my experience running a Kayfun Lite+ around 12 watts). At that resistance with a mech, you're certainly not going to be winning any cloud competitions. But again, that's not really what Kayfuns are designed for.

Some people report being able to handle 20+ watts with a Kayfun, which would be around 0.8 ohms. That's probably as low as I'd go, and only if you really didn't like the higher resistances.

I have a dual coil Kayfun 3.1 running on a single coil at the moment. I'm kind of new to all of this but was wondering what wire would suit me best?
I'd like lots of vapor with no nasty throat hit and too hot smoke. I will be smoking 8mg nic e juice.

With a unregulated mech mod, your current output is a result of the net resistance value. Lower resistance, with the assumption of using the appropriate wire for the build) equals a higher battery discharge... and more heat.

First, establish the resistance you want to run... In my experience, "readeuler's" wire gauge and resistance recommendations are sound, providing a good valance of variables. Use Steam Engine (first sigline below) to optimize the build for "heat flux", heat capacity and surface area.
To have a better understanding of how Steam Engine works... please read this.

The greatest vapor production will be produced with 100% or "max VG" blends... the higher the PG content, the less density and volume of vapor.
