I absolutely love the look of the Zenesis BAM. I'd love to have something sleek and anodized like that, or even stainless, but those limited runs seem to sell out before word gets out to the rest of us.

So it got me thinking (oh no!) I'm an Engineering Tech, why not design something just for me? Not in a way to make money, but something that would incorperate the design aspects and functions I want, in a device that is through and through me?

Has anyone kicked off an idea for their own APV that started this way? If so, what could you share about it?

I've heard people hire a machinist to manufacture tubes and what not to their liking, then add the electronics they are looking for. It can probably be expensive unless you know someone personally who can give you the "buddy" discount but it doesn't cost anything to get some quotes.

Also, there might even be co-ops who are in direct contact with manufacturers. (no idea though) If your idea gets a lot of support, there's a slight chance that a manufacturer can pump out a production run of this device for that co-op and often times at a discounted cost.

You're idea is not crazy and certainly not the first time this has been thought of. It never hurts to look at the options and try to get the ball rolling on this. Best of luck to you!
