What would be your first kit?

Hi ECF,

I have been having this discussion repeatedly with people I know and have been seeing this discussion come up time and again.

I find most starter kits to be a waste of money, i.e. the kits sold to new vapers who don't have a friend to guide them.

From my few months of experience I would ask people most people I know who a seriously curious about vaping to get the following (budget permitting):

- 1 x MVP2 (for home)
- 1 x EVOD VV/eGo Twist/Vision Spinner (for using outside)
- 1 x Mini Protank 2 (Great single coil tank - decent tank for beginners, as there is a bit of a learning curve)
- 1 x EVOD 2 (Good beginner tank as there are fewer moving parts - decent dual coil tank to see if the user may like dual coils)
- 5 x coils - for both tanks

optional - for the rare exception
---------------------------------------
- a couple of pads of Koh Gen Do cotton to learn how to re-wick
- a few NR-R-NR pre-cut/welded wires for first attempts at building coils
- a meter of kanthal if they decide to go further into RBA's
- 1 x Undecided RBA (I bought a Kayfun Mini clone - It's vapes great - but the screws are too small for my hands)
- 1 x 1/16" drill bit
- 1 x 3/32" drill bit

IMO a kit like this would help a person progress into vaping without spending large amounts on gear and shipping while "figuring it out". The cost of this kit would also be relatively affordable compared to what most people land up paying.

I was personally curious about vaping for a while, tried figuring it out on my own eventually went to a B&M that sold me a supposedly great kit for $110 that consisted on two eGo twist style 650mah batteries and two aspire CE4's. Took me a day to realize I had been duped.

What would you have preferred your first kit or purchase to include? What would you add/change/omit in "the kit" I listed above? Why?

Cheers.

Hey, i'm also a new vaper and i've been interested in the epuffer. But after a while now that i'm the forum, i'm starting to deviate from the epuffer and maybe go towards a eGo Twist.

I really want to do my research well before purchasing my first set-up as I don't want to waste money to buy several different kits to find the one that i'll like.

Exactly why I started this thread. I keep meeting people who picked up kits that were just not good enough. Some people stick with it, spend some more and get better gear, but a lot of people give up and go back to analogs.

If I had my way everyone would start calling starter kits - learning/progression kits so that merchants could understand that people want something they can grow into - and not grow out of - which seems to be what most people are sold.

NO RBA's for beginners!!

Any exceptions?

I personally re-wicked my first coil (protank) two weeks into starting. Would recommended re-wicking be fine? How about building a coil using precut NR-R-NR wires like the ones available at FT, they have pretty consistent ohms (more than most manufactured coils I have used)?

Not being confrontational, just curious.

I started with an Evod kit and a Protank mini 2. I think they are perfect for beginners because it gets you familiar with coils and tanks and batteries. It was a great learning platform for me. Granted a week later I upgraded to a Provari mini and carto tanks. Some might not see carto tanks as an upgrade but I did. I wouldn't recommend anything that has to be rebuilt to someone who is just starting out. I've been at this for two months now and I still don't feel confident enough to start down that road. I've done tons of research into it but still do not have enough knowledge about ohms law and general safety stuff.

tl;dr: start with Kanger stuff.

I would actually vary the toppers a bit more. Some people like top coil, some bottom coil, some single, some dual, and some like cartos. After trying all of the above I ended up using the mini protank two and Anyvape Davide - both bottom single coil (though the Davide now comes as dual but can be converted back to single) and both "airy" which is what I like. But the only way for anyone to figure what they like is to try different types out.

I needed something that worked, was easy to use, from a company which sold everything I needed to get started, so I went with a Halo Triton kit and quit smoking in 5 days. I'd still be smoking if I had to mess around with finding good juice, building coils or dealing with finicky ProTanks. I learned how to vape, how wicking worked, how power levels affected vaping- after the VVs came out, then branched out, knowing I could always fall back on the Tritons...

if i had to put a list together for newbies ----

- 1 x MVP2 (for home)
- 1 x itaste VV or itaste CLK (for using outside)
- 1 x Mini Protank 2 or RGM2(less pieces then a PT but still glass)
- 5-10 X coil heads for the protank/rgm2(both tanks use same coils)

Understood. You were an exception to the norm.

For about 95% of all beginning vapers, they are not ready to build their own coils. Heck, most cringe when told they have to refill their clearomizer tank and replace the coil heads. They may have already used the pre-filled cartridges like a Blu disposable and thats as complicated as they want to get until you explain how easy it is to use a clearomizer. Some even balk at the size of an eGo. I know vapers who have been using the prefilled cartridges on cigalikes for three years and thats as complicated as they want to get.

If a person has a basic understanding of Ohm's Law, understands why a battery can vent if pushed beyond its limits, then I might reconsider my stand. But this type is the exception and not the rule.

I spend a fair amount of my time on this forum trying to reason with someone who has never vaped before but wants to buy a mechanical and use 0.1 ohm coils. I'll question their understanding of what's involved and their knowledge. Most of these folks don't have a clue and I'll try to convince them to get a regulated mod first.

It's so easy for a noob to go wrong trying to rebuild, for safety's sake it's something better learned slowly after a vaper is more used to their equipment. Personally I first ran into Ohm's Law in a classroom environment in 1963, and still held off making my own mods and coils for a while to understand how it related to vaping.

Also the MVP2 is a great product, and I like the one I picked up. BUT for a beginner the size and weight might be intimidating. The eGo / evod size is a step up for most smokers, (cigar smokers excluded..:) ) easy to use and capable of satisfying vape.

Dun Good,
Dump the Optonal Stuff and you are good to go.

Also, Not a Nautilus fan, that trash can go to.

I took the same path as many others but looking back now, I wish I had saved my money and just went straight for the mvp2 because of its ease, dependability and fantastic battery life. I think it is a great backup for me now. With all the help on ecf and videos on YouTube, I felt comfortable with simple coils on my drippers. I started out with the igo-L and still use them when testing flavors. The Vision Eternity is another very easy build. Yes I know safety is an important factor but I also know if I can do it.......anyone can. Good luck to you and happy vaping. :)
