What would you give to a stranger interested in vaping?

I do agree with the whole "Tell me what to get and i'll buy it instead of me picking something out", especially from people who are ....well technologically not very smart.

My mother needed a new tank and threw the biggest fit that she just wanted it to work, she told me if I can fix it cheap then do so. So I did.
I'm selling my old beat up vape kit for ten bucks to someone soon because he said he gets frustrated easy and was feeling overwhelmed. So I told him it does work but pretty soon you'll need to replace the battery which is pretty cheap.

Though some people do want to go and learn about everything.

I think its wonderful you are doing this for people. Its a lot less intimidating when buying from someone you trust instead of a store with a billion options to choose from.

In my opinion, most people looking to get into it aren't going to be nitpicky at all. long as it works well and taste decent they are happy, just explain to them the basics and that they can get bigger and better everything if they choose too. if they don't, they won't have to worry as their kit works.

My apologies if I don't make sense, i'm half asleep and at work.

I would give them the wisdom of my experience. I would give them my time to show them how to use their e-cig and I'd be around in those early days when things might go astray so I could help explain things or fix things. I'd make sure I'd print them out some detailed instructions off the web, those self included ones are simply in need of some rework. I'd find them some instructional videos.

I'd also check out how much they smoke. If they were a light smoker - darn, I'd suggest the Elipse. If they are heavy smoker, bumb it up to 1300mah. And if they were elderly or bit blind, throw away that EVOD idea and replace it with CE5 or CE5+. Don't for goodness sake get them CE4 cause your a cheapskate. They are simply the worst invention eva for a newbie, who will, guaranteed wreck them in 1 week. Burn the wick to a crisp cause top heating coils and wicks are dumb. Especially dumb now we have bottom coils.

And just remember, e-cigs are awesome but also, very complicated when you first start. Everything online is geared to ppl who already vape, not newbies. So really, thats your job, so worth it.

Cause we all know smoking tobacco kills every 2nd one of us. So if you good at this help a friend thing, darn, u might save a life.

Pretty cool yea.

But if you suck, same applies. They might never try an e-cig again and in years to come I'm sure you may regret the fact that you didn't give a ....e, - anyhow, thats what I ask myself all the time....

As I reckon e-cigs are one of the best inventions of this century. I know they saved my life. I so know that.

I have done something similar, with giving away a starter kit to a few people I wouldn't expect to want to do the research for themselves - I just said they should try it out for a while and if they don't like it to give it back, and if they do like it to give me enough money for it to get another starter kit, so I can repeat the process. That is mostly so they will have a little bit invested in it themselves, stronger incentive to stick with it.
Others who are more eager to learn, I have rather just pointed in the right direction.

First (post), greetings from Austria, where it is cold now and we have only a little vape to keep us warm ;)

In our country ecigs are not allowed to be free traded, following the law you would have to buy them in pharmacies.
So if you give away some stuff, you also have to be sure, that it is enough to keep him 2-3 weeks going.
There are no B&M shops where you can pick up some liquids, you have to order everything online from outside the country.

I testet a few of the so called cheap CEx like"starter kits" and didn't like them. Giving them away makes no sense.
My conclusion was to assemble the "just give away" kits by myself with stuff that I also use by my own.

The first kind of kit is for smoking friends:
The sign outside says "First aid for smokers" and everything is inside a box from a hardwareshop.

WP_20131221_002[1].jpg

Inside are
a carrying zipper pouch bag containing 2 Ego akkus, 2 CE5 Atomizers, some spare heads
one Protank II
one Protank II mini
power supply
charging adapter
a few bottles of liquid

WP_20131221_006[1].jpg

I think thats enough to keep them busy - with hopefully vaping - over the christmas holidays

For the "stranger kit" I selected this assembly:

WP_20131221_007[1].jpg

Whats missing here is a cheap box for putting everything inside, didn't find a convenient one until now.

Looking at the prices at FT
Protank II Mini 11.95
Ego Akku 650 mAh 4.32
USB charging cable 1.46
30 ml Liquid ~4
------
21.73$

If you order for three or more kits, or you make your own liquid, you go below 20$.

I also look to get some reasonable starter equipment, don't want the idea that someone tells me in a few years:
Tried the stuff you gave me, it was crap, so I continued smoking....

Yeah, I can see how this can all easily become frustrating to somebody with no support and no idea what any of it means. RBA, RDA, BCC, BDC, top coil, CE#+, kanthal, PG, VG, microcoils, 7x19 1/8th 316ss, ekowool, VV, VW, squonking, 275ss mesh, AW IMR 18350 - terminologies used on a regularity basis by those of us who know what they mean. Must be pretty daunting to those who, like I've done over the past month, have to learn what each and every one means to the user looking to become a hobbyist.

Now I'm trying to decide whether I want to include a forum glossary or not.

Yeah, I don't think it'll be overly complicated for any of the guys here - pretty much everyone who works at any of these oil and has facilities has some basic understanding of electricity, or they wouldn't be allowed on site. As they're checking out my unit and looking at fast tech, I briefly go over voltage and resistance and whatnot, so I think a simple VV will be fine

Hi C,
I have no idea what FT charges (or how it translates into Canadian) but I love my iTaste vv 3.0! I use a carto and tank but you can set it up with Innokin's clearo...if it was simple enough for me to figure out...anyone can do it! It's a 900mAh rechargeable battery and comes with a passthrough... Well worth checking out!

Already covered that - quite a bit over the budget for giving away, though yes, an excellent recommendation that I'll be sure to pass along =p

Good point on the 10ml not lasting long - might be an idea to invest in some bulk nicotine, PG, and VG, not so much for my own sake, but so I can supply free liquid. I don't have all that much for flavoring though, and the DIY startup could be pricey.

Hi C,
I was just looking around on a new (to me) site after reading your post and they sell flavoring! There was a side note that said the flavoring was very strong and recommended that you mix slowly and carefully!
Go check out Rockymountainvapor.com to see what they have for flavoring. They are also running a contest on the forum where you can possibly win gift certs! Maybe you can win - then the flavoring wouldn't cost anything and hopefully you could win enough to buy another start up kit and convert one more person than you originally planned! The contest is only for a few days so I'd recommend that you check it out soon.
You're doing a wonderful, caring thing...god bless and happy holidays! Stay warm!

I have done the same. I bought a bunch of VV from myfreedomsmokes, com for $14.00 each.. Purchased some small 10ml bottles and handed them out to who was interested... The only thing I asked if they did not like them or upgrade then to pass it forward..

To this date it has worked out well.. My kids all smoke them more than analogs plus their mates.. A few friends have also made the change..

My advice if you can afford it then please do it.. You will make a difference in many lives... My hat goes off to you and keep turning other onto ecigs..

Your original kit is fine for stranger give aways. The only thing extra I would suggest would be to order extra atomizer heads (1.8 ohm is my recommendation)and include 1 or 2 of those (kanger evod or protank heads do not fit these as the tube is too small)

also print up some business cards with popular websites such as this one, casaa and some Canadian vendor websites for them to become self sufficient if they want to

I used to give the 650mah with the vivi nova head as a stranger give away when I was employed

due to fasttech issues shipping anything with batteries I would start by ordering just 2 kits to begin with to see if you can actually get them

and thanks for your efforts in Tobacco Harm Reduction

Good idea with the business cards! Maybe I can contact a few sites and get them to send some cards and free samples!

Also, I ordered five kits yesterday with extra 1.8ohm coils, so I think we're thinking on the same lines =p

I actually have a hand full of iSmoka iKits that I keep around for those rare occasion someone shows any interest.

Kits are cheap. $13 for a 650mAh auto battery charger and ismoka BCC. Has good battery life, comes with a good clearo and couldnt be simpler to use. Fill it, stick it in your mouth and suck. Lol

That business card idea is genius. I gotta remember that. Guide them to a good place to start if they decide to stick with it. Nice..

Cromeus, thank you for starting this thread and your effort!

Also listening to the responses of the community it seems that your "stranger kit" is the way to go. (Quality and price)
$13.37 eGo-eVod Variable Voltage 900mAh Rechargeable Starter Kit - 2.4ohm / 1.5mL / USB charging cable / needle bottle at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

It is perfect, that you can order it also in different colours because some people seem to be afraid to start with something polished looking like a medical instrument.

I have never used a eVod clearomizer and see a needle bottle coming with the starter kit.
So how complicated is it to refill the tank and would also older people be able to handle it?

Another more technical question is also left:
I rebuild the Protank coils for my friends with no resistance wire and the eVod Coil Head seems to be the same (beside of the shorter tube). Is this correct?

I never actually thought about colors being helpful! I ordered all five in stainless steel! Maybe I should order the assorted 7 pack next time of both batteries and evods...

Really simple, drip tip off, pour liquid in to the fill line, don't put any down the middle.

I'll have to get back to you on that when they arrive and I give rebuilding a try them - my order with my kanthal, vtr, vv3, and mesh is currently being examined by customs, though my MBV juice came through no problem.

Yeah, non-vv batteries with protanks might be a good choice for next month - that kit there is only acrylic tanks though; for less than a $1.50 more, you can put together a glass tank kit, and that would totally fit the budget.

Perhaps if I decide to up the monthly budget in the future, it could be a 1100vv, glass protank clone, 10ml juice, and charger for a just under $20 kit. I'll have to do this test run, and see it guys are willing to give money back so I can keep giving these away; if so, I can definitely see myself giving out vv/protank kits
