Yo, So I use an ego 1000mah pass thru and a 650mah ego, was thinking about possibly getting a mod. I am still pretty happy with my batteries tho.

What are the benefits of a mod as opposed to an ego with a constant output of 3.3v? They have great battery life and I've heard the expected life of most mods is 1 day, and both of mine last 2-3 days.

Suggestions?

Tell us some about your lifestyle?

Do you live in a USB world?
Where would you use the mod the most? (home, on a fishing boat, ski slopes, under water (just kidding)?)
Outdoor sportsman?
What about the weather and stuff where you live?

Are you interested in collector value or just want a good work horse?

Budget?

Preferred materials? (Wood, Stainless, Chrome, Brass, Aluminum, Inlaid Mother Of Pearl and Onyx, Gold Plated?)

Are you more in for luxury and easy use features...or more into 'high performance'? (yes, you can get both in one device and more...but it can effect price).

Today, I kid you not, there are hundreds of options out there...from $10 (without batteries) to several hundred.

So let us know a little about your lifestyle and vaping goals.

I work in an office, live in cali so it's usually pretty warm. I just really want something that'll last all day and will produce more vapor than an ego, not really sure what else I'm looking for. I don't know too much about mods tbh

edit: maybe I should just try the kangertech variable voltage?

OK definitely have a look at the REO. A unique build...very well done. Not terribly expensive...should last a life-time, great community. Good resale value.
They have models not much bigger than a bic lighter, and on upwards.
reosmods.com

If you're more into LiPo batteries, and 20 watt vaping...have a look at the Opus line.
NHaler

Stuff like this is also pretty cool (mass produced imports, inexpensive, I've never tried them so seek reviews):
Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0
Innokin iTaste VTR

If you're more into tube shapes:
The Provari is always winner.
ProVape E-Cigarettes: Buy Electronic Cigarettes & Smokeless Cigs

One my favorites:
Saber Touch VariVolt

A long time ECF Workhorse:
Buzz Pro - notcigs.com

A beautiful Mech:
https://www.supertmanufacturing.com/

This short list is just dipping a toe in the water :)

There are so many out there right now.
If you're looking for stuff under $100...
There's an ever growing list of Provari like Tubes....

Then there is the world of mechanical clones.
Too many to list right now just look around and ask if that's of interest.

I`m also thinking of trying a mod, I saw this iTaste something that was cheap like 35$ without a battery, I`m also using 1000mah ego, working pretty good though not sure if i really need or want anything else bigger and clunkier for no reason

do mods produce better vapor or what exactly is the difference

For me, moving to a larger battery platform on a regulated mod helps a great deal.
The main reason I got one was to be able to tune in the heat of the coils, and have a consistent hit from the time the battery comes off the charger until it's dead. That's the main benefit 'for me' of the mods that I use.

Since moving to mods...I've noticed I had to lower my nic levels in liquids by half! So it's performing that much better for me.

It's also nice to be able to go all day on a battery...one device to carry around.

Is the vapor 'batter'? No. But I can screw more things onto it and get a good warm vape...no matter what it is...from the first draw to the last...it's consistent. Right now I'm using a cheap mech mod with a Kick button in it...that kick lets me set it for the wattage I want...just vape till it stops. Safe and easy...and my atty always runs at my setting (currently about 8 watts).

With the Stock Ego battery...you start out at around 4v or so...and as you use it, the voltage gets lower...you end up sucking harder, holding the button down longer...trying to get a good draw as the battery gets low. Not so with a regulated mod. Also, you're stuck with whatever that Ego Delivers...with a regulated mod, you can actually BOOST the voltage up quite a bit (5 or 6 volts...or even lower it in some cases (say to 3 volts).

Screw 1.5 Ohm a dual coil cartomizer onto a stock ego battery...it's not going to power it well, and might even fry it. A bigger mod can handle it safely.

I find cartos and atties last a little longer with a good variable voltage/power mod. Often when they start to wane in performance, turning up the heat a little can give a few more hours vape time on that atty.

Do you need/want dual coils? Maybe...it's not my cup of tea, but lots of folks swear by them. With a stock EGO battery, it's not even safe to try them...and even if you do, and it works...it's not going to be able to drive it very well. You'll not be experiencing what such a carto is capable of doing.

Some mods offer 'other' perks besides just a bigger/better battery or variable voltage/power.
I.E. The REO can bottom feed liquid to dripping atomizers. Your all day vape is in one box.

Something like an MVP can offer other perks...like charging your smart phone.

MANY devices out there also have digital displays built in...so you can monitor and control more elements of the vaping experience (for both safety, and performance).

The list goes on.

Unless you're interested in trying an inexpensive clone for aesthetic reasons...I'd personally recommend some kind of regulated Mod as your first. They're safer (until you study up on maintaining the batteries properly/safely)...and much easier to maintain.

If you see an unregulated mod that you really like, but doesn't come with a VV/VW option, you can always drop in a Kick button and get a safer variable wattage unit (no fancy digital displays, buttons, etc...but the same abilities to adjust the power/wattage). So there is an option as well.

I don't own one so I can''t vouch for it personally, but it's a good APV.

I recommend AW IMR (safe chemistry; red jacket) batteries; I get mine from RDT Vapor. I use Nitecore Intellicharge I2; XTar and Pila are are also very good smart chargers, widely recommended on this forum (Pila is a bit pricey, though.)

The MVP 2.0 catches my eye. I don't mind the shape and people say it lasts a long time.

I wonder if the one from fasttech is any good, seems to good to be true that its like $25 cheaper than the competition

It's the real thing; it comes with a bunch of heads though--if you want them, it's a great deal. But I've seen the MVP for 40 bucks here in the States.

Didn't realize INNOKIN made the SVD..nice!

Yes a VERY good MOD considering two of the other most recommended rigs is the iTaste VV V3 and MVP2

I started with a budget rig called the Vamo V3 (they are up to V5 now [cosmetic differences no internal changes]) and it served me very well

I order stuff from fast tech all the time, but there mostly mechanical mods to add to my collection, I try to stick with legit tanks or drippers, I dont get those much from them... but the mods are great have never had a issue with any one of them.
fast tech takes a little bit of time in their shipping because it comes all the way from china. but they ship out on most occasions "unless not in stock" the mods very quickly.
for some things I would avoid fast tech, but for mods... there really decent prices and good value.
