As a newbie vaper, who has also got a big interest in politics, I wonder if one of the main things that the vaping community can do to prevent legislation is to be more thoughtful of the words it uses.
It seems to me that anti smokers are zealots who just hate anything to do with smoking. They have the full attention of the legislators and as such, the whole vaping community is on the back foot from a start.
Firstly, I would suggest that you never ever use the term e-cigarette again!
Maybe something like a PV stick or even a Vape pen might be a healthier sounding name.
The problem with politics is that the truth of a situation is generally ignored.
We all know that while nicotine is dangerous, highlighting this danger is helping the enemy. Instead highlight that danger is the dose. While a bottle of nicotine can kill you, so can a bottle of Vodka, and that's legal. You can vape all day, and you won't get close to the danger dose.
The core of the anti smoking message is that smoking causes death. The good news is that what we also know is that nicotine doesn't cause cancer. If vaping doesn't cause death, then why should it be banned?
Getting these messages out while demonstrating the devices is the easiest way of educating people. I would guess that by 2015, Both the US and the EU will have some legal infrastructure in place to control vaping.
If you can limit the damage by being careful about the words you use, do you think vaping will still be legal in 5 years time?
