I tried the gum- till it made my gums and throat blead.
Tried the patches too-till it put a chemical burn on my arm, left a nice scar to add to my collection.

I tried the gum, too. Didn't do a thing for me and I went back to smoking. That was in 1996.

Haven't tried the patch, but did try Wellbutrin. That didn't do any good, either. Thank God for PVs.

And just to add - it's politically correct to discriminate against smokers. It's a basic human need to have someone to look down on and discriminate against. Smokers are one of the few groups left that our politically correct society can self-righteously hate on.

There's also an attitude among ANTZ of "If I can't have it, no one else will." I think subconsciously, if not consciously, the ANTZ envy those of us who actually quit by vaping.

I hear commercials all the time promoting what ever the latest wonder drug BP has perpetrated on us. Half of the time is devoted to the side effects.
Can you even imagine what the media would do with vaping if it had anything approaching the list they blurt.

I also saw a news report on how our friends at BP have jacked up the prices of generic drugs. Hummm, commercial, media campaigning against the evils of vaping. Hummm, Naaa, purely unrelated events.

Time to knock the pink glasses off yer nose :

Gubmint doesn't give an airborne intercourse about your health - pay taxes , pay social and health insurance , pay tobacco taxes, and puleeze , do us the favour and croak exactly one day before your first pension cheque is due. And stop vaping, bugmint didn't have that in their statistics. So if you happen to have the impertinence of extending your statisitically forecast life epxectancy by wanton acts of individual reasoning , thinking and sensible behaviour, you force us to quench this rebellious bahaviour. As we aren't on par with North Korea ( yet) , we have to be nice about it and can't just toss you in some labour camp. Time to get rid of that 'vote for ....' ritual anyway.... But as long as we have to bother with it, we have to play the mushroom game with you : keep you in the dark and feed you with horses-manure... we'd really love to switch off the internet on you, but we're just building this place in Utah, were 5000 nerds are going to hand-screen Chinese porn sites for hidden codes in all these pixels ...good thing the computer mouse needs only one hand to operate...

BP doesn't give a rodent's behind about your health either. Hale and hardy folk don't buy no medicines. Thank goodness BF is helping out with all sorts of funny additives, BA is laboring hard to make sure that no living plant dares to grow without adding to their balance sheet.
Read the small print on any food package lately ? So you get sick, and they will of course cure you...well, a little...just so that you need to buy these pills again. And again. Mammon forbid they come u with a single use cure like vaping again. All these fine side effects of all thse multi-coloured pills. Just now as we were develpoing a pill to cure the side effects of taking another pill, and the side effects of the side effects of the second pill meant to cure the side effects of ...you still with me ?... No ? You don't have to. You're vaping now...

And the side effects are most detrimental to our sttistis and to our bonus programs .... pop, there go the golden faucets for the Learjet...

You're a vaper now - and we hate you for it .... cuz to get rid of you we'd have to drop that charade... and show our true greedy faces...

AMEN, Steamix! AMEN!

Why are there so many negative vaping articles? It's all about the taxes, yet nothing to do with health.

I smoked 5 cartons of analogs a month. At $50/carton that's $250/mo. Half the $250 is pure taxes that go right to the state. So in the 3 months since I've quit, my state has lost $375 on just me alone.

I have 4 friends that also have quit analogs (went to vaping), but longer than my 3 months. So let's just use 1/4 year stats, and calculate on the conservative side. All 4 of us in 3 months have not given the state more than $1200 ($300 tax/person times 4). Multiply that so we get a yearly figure on how much tax the state is loosing from us 4 not smoking is a conservative figure of $4800.

With only 4 people quitting smoking, my state looses $4800 in taxes a year. Start multiply these figures by 40, then 400, now 4000. That's a ton of money.

It's almost like our government wants us to keep smoking analogs for the tax revenue, contrary to the anti-smoking PSA's on TV and radio.

I know this is a thread from over a month ago and ive posted this comment on a few treads now.
But here in the UK this last month we have had a few reports on the national tv news, and its all been positive about vaping. They've had interviews with vapers saying how its changed their lives health wise. They have been saying that 40% of smokers have changed to vaping. They have had medical advisors saying its far better to vape than smoke, and they are reporting that generaly world wide opinion suggests it is safe, or a far safer alternative.
There is a real hatchet job going on in the states right now and its all to do with big tobacco and money.
I know vaping took off in Europe a few years before it reached the states, maybe big tobacco is just starting to panic a bit at the thought of losing 50% of their sales in the not to distant future.

I think you have to understand that when big money is at stake on a large scale there are a lot of people being paid to misinform and misdirect the public in a way that benefits the agenda of those who have no scruples and only a lust for money and power. They hire the propagandists who are paid to smear people, put out misinformation and scare people about whatever the agenda is about. Anyone who comes out with a story that shows the official story is a lie is then set upon by what I call the Attack Poodles, and they can be quite dangerous, depending on the context and how much money is at stake.

There will also be suppression of the truth by these same forces, burying of articles contradicting their story, and smearing of those who oppose them. It's how things are done these days.

I was watching the local morning news one day this week. The anchor said this:

"A new study suggests bacteria accumulated on the mouth pieces of e-cigarettes may cause users to become more susceptible to antibiotic-resistant bacteria."

That was it! That one sentence! Didn't identify the study or offer further explanation/commentary. He just went right on to the next story. Really?!? WTH?

There was NO STUDY. He was given that copy to read by those who pull the strings where he works. If you try to chase down this study you will never find it. Trust me, there is an entire industry churning out this kind of propaganda, and there are people who make quite tidy sums at it.

What's completely scandalous is that these articles actively endanger smokers' health.

In 2009 87% of surveyed smokers believed that e-cigarettes were less harmful today that figure stands at 65%.

So, we can assume that the media is actively contributing to the continued use of smoked tobacco by many smokers that might otherwise have chosen to vape.

The ultimate blame for this rests on the shoulders of Tobacco Control academics and policy makers who have consistently obfuscated. The reason they are doing this is because they cannot stand the idea that the tobacco industry might make a second stand through e-cigarettes - they are FAR more interested in "defeating" the tobacco industry than they are in protecting the health of smokers.

Damn it all comes down to money I totally forgot

It Does.

But in this case, it isn't BT or BP Money that is Funding it or the Cause. It is the Advertisers Money that is what is Fueling Negative Articles.

Face it. People Love to Read Negative News. And the More Hits a Web Site Gets, or the More Newspapers a that a Media Outlet sells, the More Advertising will spend Dollars on that Site or Paper.

Doesn't Matter if the Articles are True. Or if Study Results are Skewed or Misrepresented. A Big Banner Headline that says...

Cancer Causing Toxins Found in e-Cigarettes!

or

Are Your Children Using e-Cigarettes?

... makes Advertisers Smile.
