Just thinking about doing a small mod and rather than reinventing the wheel I was wondering if you cut open a stock 510 stick battery and replace the little dink Battery with something like a 14650 while keeping the switch circuits and atty connector in place above the top of the stock battery?. Has anyone done anything close to this?

madvapes carry kits for both tube and box mods at 3.7 volts and 5 volts. The only way you increase battery capacity and longevity is by increasing the size from my experience. I think it would be easier to start from scratch or a kit than tear apart a "stock" model. You may want to ask your question in the modders section of the forum.

Thanks, yea I know about the stuff at MadVapes. but for this mod I just wanted to find the stock wires and tag onto them to a larger battery and keep the switch and atty connector in place.
And I thought that I did ask in the modders forum.

I can take the new battery out to charge, that's no big thing. I just kinda like that little switch's feel, and there is already a atty connector there. What I don't know is if the circuits will work without that stupid LED that is at the bottom. (And that "Hair wire" is another thingy). They are made for 3.7 volts but a freshly charged 14650 could get up to 4.2v. that might just fry the micro circuits in the stock battery's switch. I was hoping that someone else had done this before to let me know if I am wasting my time or if it would work.

Well...not all 510's are created equal, either. Even if someone said "Yep, works great!" your results may not be the same. All the same, I like tinkering so even a failed experiment isn't a waste of time for me. It's all knowledge gained.

I would think that's how passthroughs are made, just removing the battery and connecting wires. They seem to work at higher voltages, so I would assume it would work with batteries that have a bit more voltage.

Well....not quite. Not with mine anyway. I built a passthrough using a battery box and 5v regulator with control pin to use a small tactile switch (vaping it as I type this out). There is a 470ohm resistor and 10uf capacitor in the mix but that's about it.(Add another resistor for an LED)

I was thinking of the ones that you can purchase. When I started vaping, I bought a 901 passthrough. It had a led in the end and looked as if someone drilled a hole in the end, removed the battery and added a wire.

Ya. I'm sure some are as simple as that. I haven't had the chance to dissect one like that yet.

I need to get around to making a connector puller so I can get my dead 510s apart without cutting the tube. I don't know why...I just don't have the heart to wreck that sexy metallic red tube on mine...LOL. But, from what I've seen so far my dead 510 is a little different from this one shown above.

Was thinking the same thing the other day. I was lucky, just pulled it out and it was mostly intact.

Can't figure how to get the thread out though, I think it's welded in. Gonna try to saw it off..
