what's inside a USB passthrough...

I am curious how a USB passthrough works......has the battery been removed?.....is the body simply a metal tube with a wire running through it to attach to the atomizer connector?.......can I do this?...

I want a tiny stub big enough for a switch and a KR808 connector.......from there a USB cable will run to a battery box which will have a spring clip allowing me to clip it to my shirt.....when not mobile I want to be able to plug the battery box into a USB slot to recharge.....I want to put a magnet on the mouthpiece so it will snap to the battery box when I'm not vaping it.....

is there more inside the body of a USB passthrough that I need to incorporate into the system?.....

Home made ones are little more than a USB Cable, solder, push-button, on/off switch and a connector.

so am I right in thinking that all I need at the end is something to screw a cartomizer on to and a switch?......I could have the connecter a long wire's length away from the battery?......
