Your friend has it dead wrong. If it was
all about the nicotine, then the patch would work REALLY well..after all it has everything going for it, it can be worn discretely and with little effort re-applied anywhere at any time. Yet I do not know of a single person for whom it has worked. In fact I think that the claims of even a 7% success rate are bogus.
The truth is that no one ever really studied the
act of smoking when they were originally going after big
tobacco and launching their hate campaigns, to see what the attraction truly was.
The e-cig has taken off the way it has precisely because it creates the
act of smoking in its entirety. The pause to lift something to your mouth, the slow inhale of warmth and weight, the exhale with the satisfying clouds that drift and dissipate.
And yes, fewer blind people smoke than sighted....have you ever seen a smoker who did not
watch the smoke when they expelled it..at least part of the time, along with watching the smoke of others if they are in the company of friends who also indulge? Yet the blind do cook, light fires, even (in the case of a friend of mine) use scented candles that require lighting, not to mention that some burn incense for the scent.
The fact is that the act of smoking engages many senses
at the time it is happening beyond the hit of nic that stays in your body afterwards. Even the "time out" that it creates is a factor in the process, which is just one more reason why all the constant nic delivery systems do not work.
