I dabbled with e-cigs about a year ago. Eventually I lost interest due to various performance issues. I was using a Janty Dura when I last vaped. So, my question is - what's new? What have I missed. Particularly in terms of performance - have there been breakthroughs?

The Janty Dura is a 510 model, and those perform pretty well.

Cartomizer - apparently a combination of the atomizer and cartridge. What's the good and bad with cartomizers?
Dripper - Drippers?
Automatic Feeding System - eh? I saw this in a review for the "GG AVS for GGTS".
Low resistance Attys: What's up with that?
So what's the advantage to a big device like the GLV posted above? Bigger longer lasting batteries? 5V v.s 3.7V? Better vaporizing with more voltage?
One thing that I recall as bothersome was the cartridges and the cartridge material. There was a lot of experimenting going on when I quit with alternative materials. There was concern about the normal cartridge material burning during use and related health issues. At the time I gave it up, no suitable solution/alternative seemed forthcoming. So anything new here?

This is one reason I like cartos, the messing with carts and fillers. As far as health issues associated with burning the filler, just don't. Keep that sucker wet.
I also attempted vaping a little over a year ago with a DSE901 starter kit but didnt succeed until I tried again a few months ago. There's so many improvements now! These new things may have existed a year ago, but are not as prevalent then as they are today:
-Mods: Vaping above 3.7 volts (often at 5 or 6 volts) and superior battery life.
-cartomizers: "disposable" attomizers, often pre-filled with juice, but you can easily refill them. They last anywhere from 1 week to about 3 weeks. They don't hit as well as real attys, but are super convenient !
-The eLiquid ! For me, this is the greatest improvement from about a year ago. Now, people have really nailed the flavor and the throat hit.
-T-tips/zip-tips: You put them on your atty instead of a regular plastic tip with the small opening. Increases the size of the opening so you can direct drip without removing the tip
-Low resistance atomizer: an atomizer with lower resistance so you can experience the feeling of higher voltage on a regular 3.7 volt device

Since they have more power, they produce much more vapor that yields (IMO) a superior taste and throat hit. Not everyone prefers a high-voltage device, but I was truly blown away when I first tried my prodigy v3. I pressed down the button for about 1.5 seconds and got more vapor than I have ever seen from my previous 3.7 volt device.
If you desire clouds of vapor and super long battery life and are willing to spend $100+ and some routine maintenance, then a high-voltage mod may be the way to go.
If you want portability and something that is as simple as possible to use, then I would go with a regular 3.7 like the eGo.
