Tube mods have hit their wall: Using good, cheap batteries was the main thing they could accomplish. Now they can regulate the voltage of the batteries they accommodate and give us a rough idea of how much battery life is left. What else do we want from a battery holder? The next steps in PVs are in these two areas:

1) Atomizers that last longer: This may be akin to anyone in the late 80s and early 90s who that "The tire companies are holding something back, there is a rubber tire that lasts forever". Anyway, an atomizer that lasts six months or a year or a lifetime... That's something to shoot for.

2) juice. I think this is the main thing that needs improving. Two base liquids have defined e-cigs since they began: PG and VG. I'm looking forward to the next base.

There are already atomizers that CAN last 6 months to a year. It really depends on how you maintain it. I still have ego-t atties that are getting close to a year and some Cisco 306's that have been around for about 6 months.

Also, there are rebuildable atties right now that will last forever. You just have to replace the wick and wire. So, I think those are gonna be the future. Although, those are starting to die right now. As with juice, there's not gonna be another type of base that is gonna be used I think.

While they still sort of fit into the tube mod category, I'd look to seeing the big manufacturers in China to start producing more mod-like devices. We already see that in the e-power and the Lavatube. I'd expect more of that as those devices become more popular. Perhaps there will be more self-contained units as well that have an internal battery and charge via USB.

Atomizers are finally starting to see some advances, and there are rebuildibles as was already mentioned, also the eGo C is out now with a replaceable heating element in the atomizer. I also expect some movement in the cartomizer field, carto tanks are getting popular and I suspect we'll be seeing some sort of hybrid solution in the near future.
