What's So Bad About Cartidges?

I think whatever works for you and you enjoy it... Keep on rockin' it out. I did carts for a few weeks, but personally didn't care for the variation if flavor. I tried three or four cart-based 510's and wasn't fully happy. But again, I've talked to people who HATE tanks (which I use) and always prefer carts... keep on vapin' bud.

They would work for me for a while. Then they would get that "swamp ..." frazzled look to them and I would end up dripping as much as I would without the cart. If they work for you, then awesome. Nothing better than having a system you like. Carts were a part of getting us to where we are today. So I'll give them that much. I just hated having to mess with something(mod it) to get it to do as advertised lol.

Why is the ECF so anti-carts?

Experience...

Carts got me off cigs. But I went through several cart mods and then 'found' cartos! If you're happy with 'em, then vape on!

I like them but never use them if that makes any sense, my friends are still using them after a year and won't change. There is NOTHING wrong with them, they do what they should and I own about 30. Just moved on in the vaping world, been making my own rebuildable attys and mods now. Just another step into this vaping crazy world

There are people here who use them and like them. I never was happy with them -- they seemed messy and they barely held more liquid than I could just drip straight onto the atty. Maybe I just never invested the time to learn to use them well.

My sentiments exactly. Just drip away.

because it seems like with tanks and cartomizers you have to really commit to a flavor.
Why is the ECF so anti-carts?

Carts are what most folks begin with. If your happy with your set-up that's all that matters. ECF isn't anti-carts. If you look around you will see most ECF members have been around for awhile thus they have long said good bye to those early days using those carts because they have found (as you will) the perfect joose that they like. From what I have seen and experienced myself, most long term vaporers use maybe a handful of different jooses on a regular basis. I myself have found my perfect flavors and only use 2 on a regular basis. And of those 2 I use one of them almost 24/7/365.

When you find your perfect joose you will want that joose in larger quantities so that you don't have to fill carts or carto's so often. This is why carts are not popular with most folks here.

Here's an idea you can try down the road if you like multiple jooses throughout the day. Pick the carto you like (dual coils with filler or E2 designs are popular) and fill several in the morning with a variety of your flavors and take them with you. Empty one and move on to the next flavor of your liking.

Good luck and enjoy!

What's wrong with cartridges

1. Atomizers - new atomizers are great, a month later no matter how much cleaning I did, they were not so great. Cartridges excel at reusability and low cost. Unfortunately they need atomizers.

2. Occasionally dumping 1/2 of their juice in your mouth on on your clothes

3. All of your flavors are mixed in the atomizer.

4. Re commitment - I use sealed manual batteries and can use a drip tip and drip all the different flavors I want. I can also mix flavors in the cartomizers but I only do it with flavors I have already tried. But I don't care to clean cartomizers and the results of cleaning are sometimes not good which is exactly why I don't clean them.

Every time I fill a fresh new cartomizer and put it on my battery, it's like my PV is brand new. And a new vaper won't appreciate that until their atomizer is not brand new. You may also appreciate cartos more once you find yourself settled into a couple of flavors. I vape 2 totally contrasting flavors - one a non-sweet cocoa tobacco and one a very sweet vanilla, each in their own cartomizer. I can alternate those and get pure unmixed flavor and great contrast.

I didn't think there was such an anti cart movement on ECF. If you started a thread saying "what's awesome about carts" then you'd probably have gotten a bunch of people on who rock cartos.

I use clearomisers and cartomisers mostly but I use a lot of other heating elements as well.

I thought the same about cig sized pvs for a while, but there is a lot of people who still use or who would reccommend a kr808d-1 pv to someone who said they wanted a small pv instead of saying, "buy a provari or darwin instead because that's what you'll end up with in the end anyway".

In the same sort of way, in saying you should just buy a provari or darwin straight away, I guess people are just trying to say that they started on cartomisers and they found system "x" a better one. Enough people use and like them that I can't say I agree that it is strongly anti-carto here.

Edit: derp, talking about cartridges not cartomisers. Substitute cartomiser for cartridge, same message, kinda :D

I stuck with cartridges the first month even with all the problems I had with cartridges. I knew how to use them, I could mix my flavors in the cartridge and I was mainly vaping tobacco flavors anyway. Cartomizers sounded difficult and confusing and you had to know about what ohms to buy and how to fill them and how to not singe them and I resisted. But as soon as I tried them (my first KR808D-1) and as soon as I had another way to test juices (a fully sealed manual w/ atty and drip tip - 510) that was it for cartridges.

With cartomizers I could lay my ecig flat on a surface and vape it anywhere without worrying about it dumping juice in my mouth. Could stick it in my pocket or purse, could pick it up in the morning and it would just work. But cartridges are the most economical way to vape as long as you keep your atomizers clean and working well (something I was unable to do).

Why is the ECF so anti-carts?

Personally I'm not against them. I used carts for the first month or so of vaping. I also used the foam method like you are using. If you like them, stick with it. As long as you aren't smoking, use what you like and don't listen to anyone else. It's all personal preference when it comes to vaping.

I like to switch flavors, but I don't want to keep dripping every few drags. A cartridge (with the foam mod) is working great for me, because it seems like with tanks and cartomizers you have to really commit to a flavor.

There ya go! I could never get them to work properly so I sort of gave up. If they work for you, use them! It's probably cheaper if you do that. And like you said, it's easy to change flavors. I do test juice that way but I don't really change juices much anymore. I stick to 3 juices now.

No - all cartridges are plastic. They make metal cartomizers though. Just about all opaque cartomizers are metal.. However you can't change the stuffing of cartos and when the coil inside gets gunked up you toss them. There are reservoir cartos with no stuffing but they have wicks and coils - if you are willing to disassemble them (if possible) you may be able to dry burn off dried on gunk on the coil.

Huh. That's too bad because I would totally get some metal ones. The plastic is my biggest beef with the carts. I should've asked if there were anything besides black, too. I'm guessing there isn't anything but these generic black things and the clear plastic tank carts?
